My first Panerai!

Earlier this week, I acquired my first Panerai... the 42mm Submersible PAM943 .
I either currently own and/or have owned a few nice timepieces over the last few years. Omega Seamaster 300M, Planet Ocean and Aqua Terra, IWC Spitfire, Sinn U1, Rolex Milgauss and Rolex Submariner 114060. Man, this hobby / obsession can be both frustrating and fun !! Anyhow, I wanted to share my thoughts on the my new Panerai.

Positives
1. Beautiful case design and finishing...the brushing and fit/finish of the case is superb!

2. Dial - The deep black dial, applied markers and text colors are perfect! The pop of blue fits in great with the design and is very tastefully done.

3. Size - I have a 7.75" wrist and I am very pleased with the 42mm size and the thickness. Although I have fairly muscular arms, being 60 years old, I was not drawn to the 47mm Sub. However, the 42mm size solidified my decision. IMHO, I definitely think that having a 42mm in the Submersible line will draw in more people like me to the brand.

Negatives
1. Although my watch is a V series, it was just sold new in July 2020. Therefore, it has the OP-XXXIV movement. There is very little info on this movement, but after speaking with Panerai Customer Service today, the new models, I'm assuming W series, have the P.900. However, she told me the specs are identical to the OP-XXXIV and Panerai "did what it takes" to make this an in-house caliber. I take that to mean that they stamped P.900 on it !! Anyhow, the lack of information on the movement is a concern, but nothing to lose sleep over !!

In closing, I'm really enjoying wearing the watch. It's a beautiful piece that fits in great with my casual lifestyle !

Congrats!!!

42mm is a good size for a Sub.
I had a 682 with a display back.

It is odd that not much info can be found on the P.900 movement.

Congrats. I haven’t had a Panerai in years and recently picked up a 959. I absolutely love this thing. Mine is preowned V series warranty card dated 2/2020.

Regarding the OP XXXIV caliber, I’m cool with it, but find it peculiar that they have the P.900 caliber listed on the 959 product page.

Been a long time since I've looked into Panerai, but I plan on keeping my 232.
