It very depends on other watch(es) in your collection. IMHO each collection must have one OF model, one SS and one PM model. Plato - this is the next step, after performing the first step with this three watches.

If I recall your epic thread leading up to Platona, DD was a strong contender, so I completely understand your temptation.

It sounds like what you really need is a colored metal watch that acts as a palette cleanser for your Platona. For example maybe like a RG DD or RG GMT.

At this point, I think the Platona may be harder to replace so should be an add rather than replace situation.

I voted Playtona for the reason that if I already had one, I would very likely never let it go. It would be the grail to me.

No wrong answer here. But for me, the Platinum Daytona is the best Daytona and is harder to replace, and you already have it, so I would not let it go. I would add a DD. But I am not a big fan of the OF too.

i would rather have the DD and the oysterflex. I suppose though if someone is a daytona enthusiast then the platona would be the King, and you may regret letting it go.

Although I wear my WG OF Daytona more often than my Platona, if I was hard pressed to let go one of the two, I'd keep the latter.

But if there's someone pointing a gun at you, forcing you to make a decision, call 911.

I just don’t ‘get’ the Daytona on the OF strap! People say they are comfortable, but I think they don’t look right at all.

I like the look of WG and platinum Daytonas on leather straps, but not rubber.

I also prefer the smaller 36mm DD.

In this case I think that the sum of two is greater than one. I have owned the Platinum Daytona before and the watch did not do anything for me. The brown was not my color and it killed the overall look of the watch for me. If the Daytona had a black bezel and ice blue dial then that is a different story. The prices of the PT. Daytona have jumped and depending on where you got in you should do well on a trade/sale. The DD40 is a cool watch and the right dial configuration makes the watch even better. The Daytona on the OF strap is not my favorite as I think the value is off for a rubber strap but that is me. I would do the trade and enjoy your two PM watches. If you want to go back to the PT Daytona in the future then do it. I never looked back on it though.

Personally, I would prefer DD40 + Daytona OF , assuming both were your first choices for metal/dial color. I recently decided on these two rolex watches as my next purchases - traded a few SS Rolex for a DD40, now waiting for the right time to get the Daytona OF. Two things about the Platona (which is gorgeous) make it A less attractive chicer for me- brown bezel, and Overall weight for a “sports” watch. Will be interested to see what you decide!

Which DD40?! If it's the ice blue motif, then give up the platona :)

WG OF Daytona and DD. Keep the Daytona and sell the DD. (Not a fan of the DD) and buy something else.
The platinium is OK but a brown bezel, yeauuch...

That’s a very tough question. I think it would largely depend on what you paid for the Platona. If you got it at a discount before things went nuts and you have had your fun with it, perhaps it makes sense to cash in while you can and get two fantastic watches to take its place. On the other hand, if you paid at or above MSRP (and are likely to be doing the same on the DD and OF), I don’t think this is a good move. Others have said it as well, but the Platona is much harder to source now so that is certainly something to think about. I’d also note that given state of the Rolex market and the pedestal upon which the Platona now sits, it is probably significantly less likely to lose value than the DD and OF (and that’s coming from a guy who owns a DD and is casually hunting for an OF).

I’d take WG Daytona/Steel Dial on OF + RG DD40/Chocolate Motif Dial over the Platona but the Platona is an amazing piece.

I wanted to let all know that the results of this poll won't influence my decision. It came up as an interesting topic in another thread so I thought it would be worth asking. I'm surprised how many say trade in the Platona!!!

Tough call. Platona is so awesome. In this instance though, I think two is better than one. Mainly because I like the versatility you get with these two pieces. Very different and they cover a lot of bases. Good luck

Really tough poll. The Platona is my grail, but a DD and PM Daytona is also a mighty formidable duo. I voted for that duo over the Ptaona, but I am already re-thinking that answer.

Whichever way you go, you have a great watch(es). Can't lose.

I see it coming now...

Steel dial checks the Daytona box, time to convert to something classic... I get it...

I’d go with DD 40 and SS Daytona or WG Daytona on a bracelet. Not really a fan of the OF.

Not a huge fan of the coloring of the Platona even though I must admit, it is an amazing watch.

I already have the DD and traded the 116515 for it. I'd take the platoon.

Quite a tough trade off as I think the three references in question have their own merits. While the PT Daytona is an outstanding watch, I think the right combination of DD and OF Daytona (for me) would be my choice as that versatility can't be replaced by the PT Daytona. Looking forward to seeing what you decided, but there's definitely no wrong answer.
