Discontinuation without replacement already happened with the 16600 killed in 2008 with nothing to replace it until 2014. Then came the short-lived 116600, discontinued in 2017 and instantly replaced with the 126600 this time. It looks to me like the Sea-Dweller has been kind of fickle lately. The SD43 will be 4 years old already in March 2021 and it's not a popular watch.

Also, with the new Sub benefiting from a slightly larger case and most importantly redesigned lugs, the SD43 makes less sense and we have the Deepsea let's not forget. I see even more overlap than before, combined with the fact the Sea-Dweller was never meant to be a high volume model in the first place. I could be wrong but I think its days are numbered. The SD43 remains my absolute favourite diver to this day, but I'm in a minority, most will find it too large. The rare few who want something big will fall back on the Deepsea and the vast majority will favour the Sub 41.

On the secondary market, now that the explosion from the first days following the 2020 launch has softened, the Sub41 and SD43 are both trading around $16k, give or take a few hundred. That tells me people are prepared to pay SD43 money for a SUB41. My crystal ball says bye bye SD43.

Hit a nerve, did I? I'm not making this up, I read basic data and the general consensus in forums from non-owners.

Check out the premiums over retail in the secondary market for the SD43 (+25%) compared with the Sub41 126610LN (+54%). It's a known thing the SD43 is too large for most wrists. It will generally fit 7in flat wrists and above.

I own the SD43 since 2017, it's one of my favourite pieces, but as much as I love it, it would be disingenuous on my part to claim it's a popular watch. I'm not saying it's downright unpopular, just that it's unpopular compared to a Sub 126610LN (and the previous 116610LN).

Im guessing if anything they will lose the (50th) red line and replace with white text, it will become a standard 43mm SS Sea dweller.
The SDDS is available in black and also JC blue/black so not a dissimilar line up.

always be the best seller,as it always has been.But i bet Rolex have never sold so many Dwellers since they released the Single Red 43mm.It is without a doubt the most popular Sea Dweller they have ever made.Using the word unpopular about the Dweller is not quite right.Or would you dispute this?
Usually Dwellers are very slow sellers for Rolex compared to Subs.This is
no longer true,thanks to the best Sea Dweller they have ever made.

Compared to other Sea-Dwellers, it seems to be more popular, which is not saying much. To me it's also the best SD there is and I still prefer it to the new Sub 126610 despite its much improved redesigned lugs. The SD43 might be our favourite diver, but it's still a polarising watch to purists and people with smaller wrists.

In any case, whether Rolex discontinue it or not, I don't mind either way. I'm just glad I got my hands on one.

I can agree with most of what you say there.But i do think times are changing
for the Dweller in the Rolex line up.I think it was very smart move by Rolex
to make it 43mm,because it fills the gap for people who need a bigger watch.
There are many big guys,who make a Sub look like a pea on a drum.
I always considered the DS just to thick, to fill this space in the Rolex line
up.I have owned many Subs and Dwellers,and must admit i have been waiting many years for a watch like the 43mm.I have a big wrist and Subs
just looked to small on me.I think there are many big wristed people in
the world who will be buying the 43mm in the future.So i think that for the
first time in rolex history the Dweller will not be a marginal seller because
of this model.I know only time can prove if i am right,but all indications
are present in my opinion.Please excuse my sharp tone in my reply .
