Looks like Rolex has bought into the naming conventions

Type Pepsi, Hulk, Kermit into the Rolex search function and see what comes up. For better or worse, they are buying into what the masses call them.

More like they “acknowledge” them and point people to a page which lists the correct reference number for the watch they are seeking.

I like some of the names and dislike others and still others sound kind of dumb. A few Rolexes have great names like Daytona. I have some chronographs but I love my Daytona’s! In my youth, I owned a 1968 Triumph Daytona 500. It was a wonderful British bike and I was fortunate to have it back then...so hopefully the name Daytona will be left alone..
