''INCOMING from a new swedish member - newbie question as well'

Hi everyone,
I’m pretty new to the scene and have a question, for the past few years I’ve been waiting for a 126710BLRO and a couple of days ago I received the call that my watch was waiting for me and I was very excited! This is a gift from my wife so I was extremely excited and could not contain my happiness. I was bouncing around in the car on the way over to the AD and as this was my first Rolex (my only other watch is a Seiko SKX007 that I received from my brother a few years ago) this was supposed to be a truly special moment. Once we’re in the store the manager greets us and we’re told to sit down for a while and try on some watches while they prepare the watch, after a brief moment we’re told that there’s been a mix up and due to demand for this particular reference being so strong that unless we purchase two additional watches they wouldn’t be able to sell us the 126710 that I’ve been waiting two years for (!). I reluctantly agreed and asked whether if any two watches would do or if they had any specific models in mind. I was told any would do but what I found was the cheapest watches they had available were some Tag Heuer models and all in all it would be a couple of ten thousand added on top of the price of the 126710. Fortunately we’re not in the US so this wasn’t a couple of ten thousand USD but SEK which was manageable. Is this standard industry practice? I can’t help but to feel a little strange about this whole ordeal and would appreciate some insight.

Yes, it is. However, it is bizarre that after getting the call, and going there, they throw these supposed “mix-up” story. I believe that they just pounded upon the opportunity to make some extra money given that you were obviously set on buying the BLRO.

Whoa! While it's normal to bundle to get the watch you want, it's not normal that they call you, tell you that they have the watch, then tell you a B%^&*S&^% story about a mix up.

Disgusting behaviour BUT the positive is that at least the watch was available so the bundle was a guaranteed solution, unlike other ADs who make you buy stuff without even having the watch there and then.

Congratulations anyway!

My wife recently purchased me my first Rolex. I’m so sorry for your experience. No one deserves to be put through that dog and pony show!

They should absolutely not have done that, but in hindsight you should be glad they did.

Would you have taken up the offer if they had been upfront about it?

I’d suspect not, even though it is objectively speaking a really good deal from an economic perspective.

Lots of members here would jump at this deal. Including the ones who ‘refuse’ to play AD games.

But you’ll love the watch so don’t think twice. Do it.

Dump the other watches and count your blessings. You’re still in the BLRO really good

I would take that deal all day long. Congrats on the watch. Too bad they left a sour note.

No this is not normal. That is absolutely unacceptable.

At least they let you select which watches you could bundle.

Still staggered that in the desperation to buy these hyped pieces the way this member was treated is seen as unfortunate but acceptable.

Normalisation of deviance. Totally unacceptable under any circumstances from a Rolex Dealer.

I’m pleased the OP has the watch he wanted but yet again disgusted at the AD’s practices.

I am planning on buying a watch or two in 2021 after 15 years since my last purchase (16610). I am hoping for a DJ41 with blue dial or OP41 blue and perhaps a SS sport model after that (Batman or Sub no-date). If I have anywhere close to the experience reported by the OP, I am going with another brand.

We call that a SHAKEDOWN! Uncomfortable situation but amazingly effective.

SEK 20,000 is only USD 2,500... and you have a nice Tag daily wearer. Not bad.

Return the other 2 pieces immediately as not suitable. There must be consumer laws giving you protection if you change your mind after purchase.

Without question, that's F**ked up

"mix up"? That's totally wrong. Bundling sure but only if you're told before hand. Not when you're there just before you pull out your credit card.

Report this dealer to Rolex, and to the consumer organization in Sweden.
I live in Denmark, they would never get away with this here.

call the police as well

AD should have mentioned this before hand, but similar requirements to qualify for a BLRO are common all over the world

The AD should have explained the deal to you over the phone
instead of calling you in and then exerting what maybe high pressure
sales tactics .

Pretty disgusting to get you all the way over there and then pull that stunt.

I'd like to think i'd have told them where to shove it

They should have told you this when they called you. Poor practice on their part. Try not to dwell on it now that it's over and just enjoy that BLRO!

Bundling is very common, but to do it like this is very shady! Congrats on the BLRO, but sorry for the shakedown!
