Scratch it on purpose. Seriously. Take something and lightly scratch the clasp or the underside of the watch. Therefore you will realize it is not perfect and wear it more often. That watch is meant to be worn in extreme conditions.

Now, take it out and scratch it! Not too much or too strongly......

Ha! Believe it or not, I have done the same thing to get myself past not wanting to scratch a new watch...

Just wear it already! My GMT has 38 years worth of character and that makes it more valuable to me than a brand new GMT.

use your rolex as much as u can.if u invested that kind of money for a watch then u need to enjoy it.Keep on wearing it and enjoy every moment. Don't worry about the scratches, it's just normal and u can have it polished anytime you want and it will look brand new again.

You are not alone, I felt the same way when I got my DSSD. After a while though, the scratches tell a story. Like when that &*#$%@ diver instructor bumped against me and gave the first scratch on my watch. Or that @#@#$ wall that I wasn't paying attention.

I figure, it's got enough steel on it that it can be buffed to eternity if necessary.

just be careful if your team scores a goal, don't jump up and down as the watch may fly off your wrist and out of the window, land on next doors cat and never be seen again. When eating out place a napkin under your wrist so you don't scatch it on the table, ditto when using a computer (trademark Rolex Giants). You can never be too careful

I recently bought my 18kt all gold GMT IIc. Worn it soon after it was adjusted to my wrist that day. My thoughts..."I waited toooooo long for this moment!!" Have been wearing for the past two days and never looked back.

No watch runs backward. No man walk backwards for long.

Wear it or regret it in years to come. What is the point of looking after it to pass it on to someone else to wear it?

To the OP......do what I do: Wear it, use it, enjoy it, baby it, pamper it, love it, photograph it, splatter pics all of this glorious forum........but put one scratch on it and you're banned!!

Seriously though, now that you've bought it and really love it, what the heck......just slip it on and enjoy that beauty - in the full knowledge that you have on your wrist one of the finest engineered watches in the world.....and that's saying a lot!!

When I first got my Rolex, I too had about 2 weeks in which I was hyper-careful with it. Then I realized that 1) Rolex will make the thing look as good as new after a service, 2) these watches are very robust, and 3) I didn't pay that much for it to be a safe queen. One of the reasons I bought a Rolex was because of how robust it was. A friend of the family had bought his GMT Master in the 60s prior to serving his first tour in Vietnam. He was a Major in the Rangers (paratrooper, Army, special forces). He jumped out of the plane, the watch ripped off of his wrist and dropped some 10k+ feet to the ground. He picked it up, put it in his pocket and fought through several tours with the watch in his pocket. Fast forward to 40+ years later, the watch looks as good as it did when it was first bought. It is knowing that with a hard life and hard wear that these watches will always look good. I wear mine for everything now (except for working on a car, I'm afraid I'll scratch the paint on my car, or if I'm working in the engine, really causing severe damage to the watch). My watch looked heavily worn, and yet still looked fantastic. I just had it serviced, it came back looking brand spanking new, and now I wear it all the time again. Once you start wearing it and get accustomed to the idea that scuffs are going to happen, the peace of mind is knowing that routine service will keep that watch lasting a lifetime and always looking like it's brand new. The scratches and scars are all character building for the watch and tell different stories! Wear it and enjoy it. You bought it and deserve to wear it. Rolex made these watches to withstand incredible conditions!

Boy do I know the feeling. I have two Datejusts, on SS and one TT turn o graph model and I was terrified to wear them at first but then like other I said to myself well you only live once and it is ridiculous for such a beautiful watch to sit in a drawer. I still baby them but they are on my wrist as much as possible.

I was wondering how easy it is to get scratches and dings buffed out of the watchband and or case. And also what is the general cost to have something like this done, can they make them look new again?

ALSO can anyone tell me the SIZE of the band I need for a DATEJUST, I was wanting to buy a used OYSTER style since I now have a JUBILEE and wanted to know the size to look for, is it 20MM? It is the older Datejust not the new bigger one, one is 1986 and then other 2002.

Thanks for the help!

From an RSC (Rolex Service Center), it'll cost about 550 USD to have a complete service done on the watch. They'll re-oil, clean, make your movement as good as new, they'll buff the case, etc. and your watch will look like you just picked it up from the store. I can't answer your other questions.

To just have a buff job, I think you can expect to pay anywhere from 75-150 dollars, from what I have seen...

If you dont have a WATCH WINDING BOX for STORAGE, does it hurt the watch to just sit it away when it isnt MOVING AT ALL, I ask because I have two rolexes plus a very expensive and vintage OMEGA PIE PAN constellation, they are all automatics and I dont have winder boxes for them so since I can only wear one at a time (ok sometimes i do even wear TWO!) does it hurt to store them for long periods of time where they are not MOVING?

Also does anyone know if there is some sort of rule that you have to have so many POSTS in order to start your own THREADS, I can seem to post fine in EXISTING THREADS but it wont let me start my own thread, i just joined today by the way and only have a handful of posts but itw ont let me start a new thread only can post in existing threads, anyone know why?

Does it hurt to just store a rolex away NOT moving, like with no winder box, is there any reason not to do it this way, I have 3 nice watches and cant wear them all at the same time and one of them in particular, my omega vintage constellation pie pan in mint condition doesnt get worn much and the other two, both rolexs, I wear one but not the other too much and havent gotten a winder box yet so sometimes it sits for a month or so without moving until i take it out and wid it, does this hurt the rolex etc to just sit like that not operating or moving?

What is best for long term non use storage, NOT MOVING stored away or a winder box ALWAYS MOVING?

I put it on last night when I got home from work. it looked so sparkly and shiny that I thought "I want to keep it looking like that and not ruin it." So, I took it off and put my Omega on - the Rolex went back in the drawer wrapped up in a watch cloth. I have a Seamaster GMT (as you might have guessed) and wear it for EVERYTHING. I love my Rolex so much but why am I babying it SO MUCH? Help. I want to wear my Rolex more but just can't.
Funny, I have the same problem. I bought another used Rolex for daily wear.

Good call on not wearing it while you shower, shave or brush your teeth. Those activities would almost certainly exceed your watch's capabilities...

Wear the watch

I actually went through a period when i would just look at my collection and wear a timex, but that changed over the course of 7 years , I wear a part of my Rolex collection everyday with the exception of the ss/Daytona, my DJ and yatchmaster TT have become my favorite pieces.

Enjoy what you saved hard for and

Wear the watch now!

You spent all that hard earned money on a watch and you should wear it. Abuse it, enjoy it, cherish it....get your money's worth.

SeamasterGMT, you're not alone. I feel the exact same way. Now my watch is all scratched up. I would like have it polished to a mirror, showroom-new, shine. Any good, low priced, recommendations in NYC (besides the RSC)?

Life is not long enough to worry about how a Rolex will look after wearing it a few weeks!

Life is meant for enjoying. It is meant to center on both the unimportant and the important.

A fine Rolex, as you have, is meant for a blending of joy and usefulness.

Wear that timepiece! It is not a jewel. It is a daily tool that will blend both of the above perfectly!
