Sd4k : sd43 : dssd jc -which one is collectable?

Hi, in these days, I’m inerested in sea dweller and deep sea and I guess these could be more collectable than the modern sub in the future.

Cause in my opinion, todays sub look all the same. Just changing the movement, bracelet or the size. That’s all.

But modern sd(or dssd) has different design and story so.. These might have more potential to be future classic or collectable?Just my opinion. Actually I don’t know about the watch collecting so I wanna ask you guys!

Sd4k- the last pure sea dweller design, released for short period in rolex history

Sd43- red writting, and well ballanced **50th anniversary** watch (so maybe itll be discontinued one day? And after then..?)

Dssd dblue- stunning dial, monster diver watch and it has a history of rolex deep sea challange (But it’s not original that 12,000m diver watch. so cant it be called as historic watch? I dont know)

The collectable Rolex watches are the ones you want to own and wear.

Theres a talk about discont. Of the dblue or maybe the whole line since it is not as hot as the sub. Due to its size. But until no confirmation from rolex just buy what floats your boat and you wont regret it.

Good grief what ever happen to buying a watch you like. I guess I'm a watch wearer rather than a collector and so cannot understand the mentality of a lot of today's Rolex buyers. Most now seem to be bought because some so called celebrity on insterface or snapcrap has one.

Buy the watch YOU like wear and enjoy it and if 30 years on you decide to sell it you might get your "investment" back.

None.
Collectible are those who generate dial patina and faded bezels which made them unique. Modern references can only get discontinued and therefore a bit pricier depending on demand.

I’ll tell you what I tell my parents/friends who asks me about my passion for watches. I never buy watches for investment potential, in fact, I would still buy every watch I currently own if I knew in advance that the price would drop to $1 the very next day after purchase. To me wearing and looking at a nice watch that I LIKE, is like appreciating fine art, it makes me happy and brings a huge amount of enjoyment. I hope one day you can reach this level of enjoyment in watch collecting. It’s a great feeling and a great place to be. Cheers

I don't think the JC will be discontinued, why would Rolex do that? they may discontinue the regular black Deep Sea because it's not so popular, but I don't think it will become collectable because it's too big and bulky which doesn't help with collectability.

SD4K and more so the SD43 Mk1 will be collectable for sure in my opinion.

Buy what you like...which for me is 116600 because the size works for me and i love the 120 click bezel and the dial thats not gloss nor is it matt ....

OP - ignore all the perfect people on this thread, if only we could all be so wise! And frankly, most of them are kidding themselves, it’s become trendy on here to shoot down anyone who mentions future value or collectability.

The most collectable in my view will be the 116600. The limited production run certainly lends itself to becoming a future collectable (not saying it’s rare btw, before i get shot down).

And the 116600 is a magnificent watch to wear, I’m a huge fan and have had mine for nearly seven years.

The DSSD is an impressive watch, but I’m not convinced that such a bulky watch will age too well. But maybe I’m just bitter because i think it looks amazing but it’s too big for my small wrist!!

Collectability has a lot to do with the watch's desire during that period of time. Something collectable right now might not be desired in the future or vice-versa. So it's hard to answer.

Based on the characteristics of a short production run, last 40mm case and closets to the original Sea Dweller, the SD4K should be one to take a close at. However, based on current market response and the craze that everyone seems to jump on with everything SS professional... the SD4K is pretty neglected... which would make people question (will is be collectible).

Seems to me more people are interested in having the newest model or the original interactions of the watch. Everything in between... well... is meh (based on the market response).

I personally like the SD4K and if I find a good example, I'll likely jump on it. SD43 (nice red text... but that's it). DSSD interesting dial. Size-wise, well not for everyone.

Perhaps the OP was simply saying he likes all three, so all things being equal, what would be "collectible."

OP probably likes the three watches, so "wear what you like" is irrelevant.

To me the most collectible watch is the SD43 mk1. One year production run, stick dial (I,220m), no Swiss Made coronet, slightly bolder lettering. First SD with a cyclops, first 43mm case, first 3235 movement in a professional model. True 2017 50th Anniversary.

SD4k, for sure. It was only produce for three years, and it was the first 6 digit SD.

I own a SubC, SD43, and JC and my ranking in terms of future performance.

1) JC, both in short term due to potential discontinuation and long term due to the unusual dial, Rolex doesn't make colored dials on SS sports models let alone a gradient.

2) SD4K, short run adds to rarity and average size will make it more liquid.

3) Sub, fairly common the most liquid and will appreciate slow but steadily. The S&P index fund of watches.

4) SD43 - 2,3,4 are close really. Some have complained about the protruding case back, I think it's a great size but the size isn't as wearable as 2,3 for an average wrist. I put it last because of less popularity than the sub and ease of liquidation.
