15710 vs 15703

Looking at get my first ap, what’s the main differences to look at with these divers? Different movements I’m guessing & display back?

Looks like the 03 is thinner and matte dial too

Any negatives with going with 03? Does the lune wear out on these?

Hello Steve,

15710 has the display case back and matte dial (stamped) whereas the 15703 has the 'wet' dial done using guilloche tool, you can see how it is done in this VIDEO
You may find info on the different AP dial types HERE

They both use the same caliber AP3120, 15710 comes in different variants with multiple case/dial combinations (black, blue, white, and grey-15711).

Then it depends what you prefer: open caseback is a major benefit and cannot be retrofitted on 15703. On the other hand, the 'wet' dial required another level of craftsmanship and many more hours of work. You may find 15703 around 16k whereas 15710 is around 20k. I would expect the lume to be consistent between the 2 models. The thickness is also different based on AP website, 13.9 compared to 14.1 for 15710 but this is probably unnoticeable.

If you need additional details to make up your mind, the topic was already discussed there

Prices on C24 for the 15703 and 15710 seem to be converging. $16k for a 15703 will require a bit of negotiation.

I prefer the Wet dial, felt like there was water moving over the dial, nice touch for a Diver.

You won’t go wrong with either

The movement is rather nice to see though.

I did ask about the dial when I toured APSC Clearwater and was told by our very knowledgeable guide that the 15710 dial is also machine turned, and it is just layers of paint/lacquer which give it the smooth finish rather than showing the pantograph machine tooling marks.

The quote was “Audemars Piquet does not stamp, they engrave.”

I went 15710 as it’s a real shame not to see the movement. But whether that is really worth the premium, I’m not sure now, as in truth, i never look at the moment !

Though I did contemplate on which version to get . I ultimately went with a bnib 15710. Granted I paid list price and unfortunately after the recent price increase. But at least I know it wasn't beat to sh&! or polished to make it look pretty.

That is a good point, in theory I ofc like the movement shot but I only remember to have a quick look at the backside maybe every couple of months so unless its a Dato or suchlike I don't put such a premium on that for me.
