“Not a Supply Issue / There is NO Shortage” Says Govberg
Govberg/Watchbox says Rolex has increased shipments to ADs — even of sports models. Rolex isn’t holding back anything. No artificial shortage. Strength in the secondary market creates more demand through authorized dealers... and the cycle perpetuates itself.
There is an insatiable global desire and demand for Rolex. Go to 1:50 https://youtu.be/4MaVV664Ot4?t=110s |

Ask any AD and they'll say the same. The only point of contention is this forum not understanding that demand is real. AD's have a hard time balancing new customers and pre-existing customers.

Rolex can make 1 million 126710BLRO, it still won’t be enough. There are billions of us. If a company like apple, which has the full force of China manufacturing behind them, is unable to meet demand, Rolex stands zero chance either.

Yup. It has been a demand problem for several years now. 2017-ish?
Temporary COVID supply issues just exacerbated existing supply/demand imbalances. |

Some people cope better if they have something to focus their frustration on. A scapegoat, be it unethical ADs, Rolex conspiracy, or evil grey dealers is easier for them to swallow than something simple like supply and demand.

It’s demand. Not supply. Always has been.

It's sound like they are pointing out that the secondary resale market is the demand. They are bought to sell.

It’s Certainly BOTH a supply and demand issue. Rolex states so themselves.
Straight off Rolex.com FAQ: How can I check the availability of a watch? Please contact your nearest Official Rolex Retailer. They are best suited to advise you on selecting a Rolex watch. They can provide you with information on the availability of Rolex watches in your region. All Rolex watches are assembled by hand with the utmost care to ensure exceptional quality. Such high standards naturally restrict our production capacity and, at times, the demand for our watches outpaces this capacity. Therefore, the availability of certain models may be limited |

Except I don't think that's what he's saying. It sounds like he's saying there are 75 apples, but they are being sold to 10-20 people, who are in turn selling those in-demand apples to apple resellers, which is where the other 80-90 people have to turn to get their apples.

Totally consistent with what my AD said.
Also read this article from NYT that talks about demand from China. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/14/f...rt-leader.html |

I think that there are now a ton of people who are buying Rolex Sport models because they think of it as a way to either wear for "free" for a couple years or even make money. This is in contrast to people who would buy a Rolex with no regard for the resale value because they wanted to own it for all time. |

I’ve been doing some digging. Does anybody know if Govberg the jewellers is in any way linked to Dan Govberg of Watchbox?
