Yeh, I too find it funny that people get upset / annoyed / pass comments about certain nicknames.

Why does nobody criticise when people refer to the Hulk, Pepsi or Coke? I’m ASSUMING Rolex never launched them with those names and it was simply someone coming up with these names and they have simply stuck.

I’m not criticising, just trying to understand.

For the record, I’m not fussed either way if someone uses a nickname.

As far as any of these nicknames go it's literally the most descriptive by a mile. Green circle with white text that has a black circle with white markings in the middle. Doesn't that pretty much nail the layout and color scheme? Kermit is the one that seems most silly. Yes, I get it, he's green, but so are guacamole and moss.
All of them are childish, just learn the reference.
If you are interested enough in Rolex watches to be a member than a little self education cannot be so difficult.

Some even like to compare their watch with this

Those models have one nickname. That is my issue here, there are multiple. Also, Pepsi didn't get a new nickname just for the 6 digit.

I don't mind the nicknames either, I agree they make it easier to know exactly what model people are refering to. However, it seems like it jumped the shark at some point (maybe at batgirl) and became less organic and more of a race to give every sports model a silly name.

You may be in danger of taking yourself more seriously than Rolex does. Go to Rolex.com and type "Pepsi" into the search and you'll see a red and blue GMT. Type "Kermit" and you'll see a green bezel Sub. So if Rolex is paying its web staff to link these nicknames to its models I feel like watch nerds on a forum can use them in conversation, no?

Yes, but I would argue that a single nickname of "Pepsi" covering 70 years of model changes isn't as useful (in terms of specificity) as Kermit, Hulk, Cermit/Starbucks which immediately tells me which exact "green Sub" we are talking about.
