Either your AD is telling porkies or my AD is telling porkies. We wouldn't have long to see who was telling porkie pies.

I have a Milgauss reserved at my AD (no deposit, wasn't required) which i'm due to collect tomorrow, i'll let you know if there were any nasty surprises at the till!

I did confirm the price (though only verbally) when I asked them to get me one in so i'd hope they'll honour that, though in the current market honour is a much saught after word...

I spoke to my contact at Goldsmiths earlier this morning and they have confirmed that all prices are going up from Monday. They did not confirm what the increase would be.

Thanks

Jonathan

I think this is only applying to the UK or parts of Europe?

If Goldsmiths are putting them up then that's it. They are the one of, if not the biggest dealer chain in the UK.

Spoke to someone in the trade today too while picking up a sub date at just under retail price. She seemed conviced prices were going up too.

No price increase today at Goldsmiths. Called up. Apparently Cartier were considering a price hike today, which would have probably triggered a knock on effect with other brands. As it was, Cartier did not choose to raise their prices, so for now at least, the prices are the same.

Absolutely correct

My mum just bought a Cartier yesterday in fear of the price hike kicking in on Monday/Tueday after the bank holiday weekend - however, at the jewellers she bought it at, it was confirmed that it probably wouldnt happen now. I also spoke to an independant Rolex dealer in the UK who knew nothing of another increase, as he explained that the recent ones in the UK (12.5% before Christmas and 10% just after) were to compensate for the weak £ against the Euro - to make our prices closer in terms of parity with those of dealers in Europe (to discourage Europeans buying up all our Rolex's in the UK with their strong Euro)

However, as this hasnt got much worse recently, then I was told that any future increase in price in the next few months would be unlikely.

I've never had to pay a deposit yet on a Rolex. I go on the usual life time waiting list only to be called within a couple of months,I do always buy which may be why I get a quick call.

I had to pay a deposit to Ernest Jones as the watch I wanted had to be special order from Rolex.

A deposit is more for the AD to have confidence before ordering, not as an agreement to hold the price, most of the time the receipt or the paperwork they give with the deposit will state that 'prices may change' and that they are not held to current prices.

I think those price increases are linked to the foreign exchange rate ($/€).

I work in the automotive industry, we buy car in Japan to sell them in Africa. Because of Yen raising against € we had to increase our local prices by 25%. But now that its quite stable we are leaving them like this, wainting to see what is next (up or down).

I believe its the same for Rolex, built and sold in € vs US $ and Aus $ local prices. They have to adjust regarding currencies.

Cause here nothing happened beside the "normal" annual January price increase.

What happened to the UK price hike?

Seems to me that a few ADs were full of crap with their 1st of May price increase.

My guess is that it would have happened if the GPB/Euro had stayed at 1 to 1 but as the pound has gone up it balances the prices in the UK with the rest of Europe.
