Put it anyhow that you want to, but I will still tell you that greed is killing the fun.

Yes, I saw that listing as well. Crazy asks for Daytonas don't shock me, but the OP did. 130% over retail for Rolex's entry level timepiece?! And I really do think it'll sell for close to that.

Of course, that watch is on Craigslist which means that not only is it a fake, but if you go buy it you will be robbed and possibly killed.

Well, in the USA anyway...

Welcome to the forum.

That’s a shame and I truly wish it were different for watch enthusiasts.

This demand imbalance is on an historic trajectory. It defies classical economic models because the brand is what people want, not the functionality of the product. Plus the brand’s inability to ramp-up supply in the face of huge pent-up demand.

If Rolex tripled MSRP they might still fall short on the supply-side. At least that would shake out the aspect of resellers profiting from a clear corruption in the distribution side.

This is an unbelievable opportunity for a revamp of “place”…

That is, allow customers to use the existing configuration tool on the website for 2021 models (and other current production models). Add a “buy it now” button with free “ship to store” to your preferred AD. The cost to them (as currently expressed via Rolex’s current distribution channel) remains the same. And the profit goes to that AD. The wait time is an honest production target date. Regular stocking of DJ’s continues for AD’s, too.

This will also punish the corrupt players in the distribution channel and retail channel who feed the “market”.

A wonderful idea, but the AD's would be livid. How would they make massive profits bundling high margin items with scarce sports models? Rolex might not like it either, when they're two tone ladies datejusts with diamond bezels/dials sit in the display cases and never move.

My AD (I struggle to even call them that. To be my AD, you have to actually sell me things I want from time to time) has said that business has never been better for them.

Thanks for engaging in the convo on the “New Rolex”…

So, for that AD desire, Rolex can stipulate that certain new models require a “qualifying purchase”. Al’a PP who has owners register their watch online, Rolex could offer the same thing.

But for new buyers, maybe you must order a qualifying purchase along with the hot, new, shiny thing that a buyer MUST have. Or must go buy that qualifying purchase at AD beforehand. So the bundle would yield the same profit to the AD.

I’m not favoring it, just saying that for such greedy AD’s there is a way to satisfy their need for extra profit.

My AD manager told me they are getting as difficult to get as GMT’s. Pretty crazy.

Thanks. That’s for sure. IF I saw the latest Explorer II 226570 polar dial I would go for it without hesitation.

Not crazy at all. I bought that unworn Coral Red for $14,375. Now there's a new one up there for $200 more. So I MADE money from buying low. LOL
I am going to start a seperate thread on this purchase later today along with a pic, if I can figure that out.

Hi Bob, I just read your other thread. Congrats on your new OP Coral Red. I do believe that for some, depending on their circumstance and situation, paying over 100%, sometimes even more, over MSRP, does makes sense. For myself however, I couldn't pay that much over retail for a still-in-production timepiece. All the best, and enjoy your lovely, new watch.

I’m sure it hasn’t. I doubt most AD’s care even a little bit about what you do with the watch once you buy it. Unless the AD is jealous of course.
