Intending to pull the trigger on my first rolex, a Gmt master 2 116710LN
Hi guys,
Singaporean newbie here! 27 years old. After a few years of working hard and finally about to pull the trigger to get myself a rolex GMT master 2, 116710LN black bezel that has already been discontinued. I hope the community would be able to help me out as i have a few queries: 1. My gut tells me to not buy from watches from carousell sellers but it seems like i'm able to save about 1k sgd as compared to the secondary market dealers. Should i were to do so, are famous well known shops like Top hour, KB Luxury, or any at far east plaza etc, able to authenicate 100%? I have heard stories (not too sure if true) where a 2nd hand watch contains all original rolex parts but could be period correct, not original as per day 1. If i were to bring it do RSC to request for a servicing quote, any price updates as per 2021 for such servicing/authentication fees? 2. Buying from secondary dealers at Far East Plaza I made a trip down and there was a stated price of 17, 700sgd for a 2017 piece. So the cash price was offered to me at 17k flat. Do you think that there would be any chance to hammer it down to 16/16.5k? 3. Being the CEO of hope and going through the AD way as usual, would it be worth the wait and clocking the expenditure at ADs? i currently have 1 purchase with Cortina for a Panerai. My hopes are to get 1 average range 4-7k watch per year and i was just wondering is such a spending even significant for them to remember/create an rship. Just trying to get an insight how much are the whales spending at once or in a short amount of time to be remembered, and offered or paired with a such hot pieces! 4. Purchasing a naked watch i have no intentions to sell off my first rolex that i'll be purchasing hence a naked watch, no box and papers would be fine with me. But once again, without a history and the issue of original vs period correct bugs me. Would you guys consider bringing a naked purchase watch to RSC to authenticate/service too? Cheers guys! |

buying one 4-7k watch per year will do nothing for a relationship in the current times sadly. also i would never buy a naked watch. always get a full set, you never know what can happen and whether or not you might want to move it later

Get the watch you can’t live without! I bought my first Rolex “naked” cause it was irrelevant to me knowing I would never let it go. You don’t need to take it to an RSC, but do take it to a reputable watchmaker and ask their opinion. I have don’t that with all three of my watches, one of which I paid for the 600$ service. Best of luck! You’ve picked a great watch and I’m sure you’ll enjoy the heck out of it.
