Is the submariner the king of the jungle ?
Hi friends
Despite there exist other watches models more expensive or whatever bla, bla, bla, I wonder if the Rolex submariner (any model) is the king of the jungle among any dive watch along the world. I think yes it is and moreover, if this were true, who gets the second place ? I dont know this… Thank you !!! |

I'll call the Submariner as king, only because i'm biased as I have one, it could never be a Daytona though as it is not a watch I like.

It’s a great watch for sure and certainly has more prestige than any other current diver. But Tudor and Omega arguably offer a better product and a better price in the Pelagos and Planet Ocean, respectively, assuming we are talking about current lineups here (Breitling too, for that matter). The Sub is definitely prettier than those two and the one you would pick if you’re looking to impress your friends.

It’s pretty clear from the post he is talking about divers, so the Daytona is irrelevant here.

For me the king is the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms, the first diver, whatever Rolex says. And in terms of finish and movement, it's above it.

Can't go wrong with a Sub..There is a reason why it is the most common dive watch which all others are compared to.

Sea Dweller in any form is King. Submariner in any form is a very close second.

Hah ! asking a bunch of Sub owners if they "feel" Sub is the best dive watch.....
Rolex makes other, "better" dive watches, Tudor makes better dive watches, as does Omega, Blancpain, Seiko, Sinn, Citizen.... If you asking what's the most wanted, popular fashion, dive watch, then yes, it's probably a Submariner.

I’m not a diver but i love the submariner. It offers everything i want in a watch and the glide lock is as good as it gets for on the fly adjustments.

Sub is the King indeed, most ubiquitous but for a legitimate reason. Technically it might not be the best, finishing might not be the most beautiful, availability might be tricky but overall it is THE dive watch. It is the longest continuous production dive watch series without being the re-issue.
Second place goes to Fifthy-Fathoms Barakuda, third is Omega Seamaster 300 and then SLAs BB58s, U50s. FifthyFathoms 45mm, PO, SD, DSSD, Doxa Sub, Sinn U1 alongside MarineMaster are contenders but they are too big for most. |

For fashion, yes. Functionality, no. I've never met a dive instructor who wore a Rolex.

It’s funny because not to long ago the WIS community would say oh it’s only a “Sub”. And now look at the thread title...
I love my Sub but the last time I went in the water with a shiny fishing lure on my wrist, I was stalked by a Barracuda back to the boat. After that the matte black Frogman was the weapon of choice. |

The Submariner is the Reference Among Divers' Watches.
I would definitely rank this #1 in the category of dive watches, and easily in the top 10 among ALL sports watches. |

Is the submariner the king of the jungle ?
Deepsea is the king diver In my eyes. It may not be nearly as popular as the Sub but it’s technical engineering is second to none.
So many other great divers out there. Would be tough to rank. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

The sub is the benchmark against which all other divers are measured.

The sub is the coolest watch, and the original. All others are just derivatives. Won't even consider a blancpain until they bring down the monstrous size (for non-LE) and get rid of the "BLANCPAIN" on the case flanks. It screams INVICTA.
