Here’s a few pics to maybe help. Now as far as my 16600? That’s a whole other story.
Wow, I'm surprised the SD doesn't sit higher on the wrist. This makes me a little more confident that it might not be as big a change as I was thinking. I also really like how compact it looks compared to the 41mm SubC.

Here is my 5 digit and 116600 spliced together on the wrist.

Both are incredible watches.

The 116600 is a future classic...an awesome watch, a great movement, an interesting case, a date without magnification, a very interesting technical design behind it, and very limited production. It's a very cool watch that isn't sufficiently appreciated yet and will probably get increasingly harder to find. IMHO, you should definitely get one.

That said, I don't think you should sell the Sub Date because it's now discontinued and you will probably miss it. And this is even more so if you were the first owner as you can't do that one over with the same model.

I have it in rotation, to me is not for desk diving, it’s bulky but beautiful, also is more heavy but if you are used to PM weight will not be an issue.

subc is nice, modern, classic and feels natural as an everyday wearer,

sd4k is a bit thick and I *personally* don't like the contrast between high gloss ceramic AND matt dial, looks ' unfinished design' in person.

now if you include 16600, I would pick the 16600. it has it all, classic, comfort, cool details, blend of insert and dial. etc and is in same price range.

Add the SD4k. It fits great. You can add, so you should. Then, sell the one you like least, well after the honeymoon period is over. I owned the sd4k when it was a $7500 watch. Sold it back to the gray at $9000. They keep going up. Great watch. But sub fits better for me. YMMV.

Forget the justification clause of owning 2 black divers, non issue for me. Add the SD4K, killer watch, you’ll love it. It would be a great add.

If you are stuck stuck on the justification line, consider the limited production run of the SD.

In my experience, the sd4k is very compact and svelte on the wrist. To me it wore more comfortably than the 116610. But I haven't compared to to the 126610. It also feels smaller but heavier than the 216570 (which was a super comfortable large watch).

I have good sized wrists so take that into consideration. When I put the sd4k on after wearing my dssd jc it feels miniscule.

But believe it or not, in spite of all this comparison, I've never worn any rolex and thought it uncomfortable in the least. So if you want my opinion, the sd4k is f*king way cooler than the sub.

I think these 2 are different enough to justify their own place in a collection side by side.
Just my 2 cents.

*WATCH UPDATE*

Thanks again for all the comments and suggestions. I ended up finding a local dealer who just got one in and was able to try it. Like so many of you mentioned, it really doesn’t wear that much bigger than the SubC and at least on my wrist, it’s just as comfortable. Surprising the case itself isn’t that much thicker. It’s more the case back which settles nicely into the top of my wrist. On a side note, my Tudor BB case is a monster compared to the SD4K.

So as much as I enjoyed my SubC, it’s time for it to find a new home. There’s no way it would get any wrist time now that I own this beauty!!

CONGRATS! You won't regret it. I love mine and it fills the role SD and SubC watches should fill, all in one package.

Good call. I've had my SD4K for three weeks and find it very comfortable. Not nearly as thick as I thought it was going to be.

Great call. You can't go wrong with a 116600.

Best watch ever, from my perspective, for some of the same reasons you cite - in spite of the overall thickness on paper, the caseback just nestles perfectly into my wrist.

Six years on, still my favorite and I hope you enjoy that beauty just as much as I do. Wear it in good health!

The SubC was an abomination until they fixed it this year, and until the new release, the SD4K was the only ceramic Sub with the original proportions. I'd say to make the switch if you can.
