Tudor Oyster-Prince 7965 crown size
I wonder if someone would be kind enough to help me out? I recently bought a Tudor Oyster-Prince 7965, with a serial dating it to 1964 (my birth year, hence the impulse purchase).
At some point in its life, the crown has been changed to a generic replacement with no markings. I’d really like to replace this sterile crown with a correct underline Rolex crown. However, I don’t know exactly what size/reference of crown was fitted to these 34mm Tudors. I’ve been trying to find the answer via Google, but the amount of information I can find on this model is frustratingly scant! So if someone here who knows the answer, or has a 7965 and can measure the crown diameter, that would be a great help. Thanks for your time. Neil |

Thanks very much for your reply. This is what I thought too.
However, the reason I wanted to check was because I have a 5.3 underline crown - so I removed the incorrect crown (and the stem) so I could try the correct one for size. But it doesn't screw onto the tube currently fitted in the case - the tube is so small that the Rolex crown pushes straight over the top of it. This gave me pause to wonder whether the 5.3mm crown was actually too big and I needed one of the smaller versions of the underline crown - or whether this smaller crown fitted to the case also came with a smaller tube that was fitted at the same time. |

I have used this chart and I’m 3 for 3 this year with it.
https://blog.esslinger.com/generic-r...534.1526326902 There is a similar chart for the tube. The crown is right at 24-530. So the tube may be stripped. |

I'm pretty sure the tube's not stripped - the incorrect (and pretty tiny) crown currently fitted on the watch screws down fine. So it would appear that the crown and tube were replaced at the same time (which I guess would make sense if the watch was repaired on the cheap by a watchsmith using whatever he had to hand - and particularly if it was the original tube that had stripped rather than it being a problem with the crown). And the chart tells me I need a 24-5300 tube and 24-530 crown. Once again, thanks for your help! I'll post some pics of the Tudor once I've managed to get it reunited with a correct crown/tube combo. |
