If you make the right choices, 2 watches are all you need.

For example, Submariner and Datejust 41.

However, I have a Submariner and a Speedmaster, and I’m never getting rid of either, so now I need a Datejust and those 3 watches are all I really need.

But I’ll probably add a 4th watch anyway, so that’s how I get to 5 watches being too many for me.

I always felt like either speedy could do dress watch duty just fine.

2 is plenty for me, have had dozens in the past. But tend to wear only one 95% of the time, the other on special occasions or when one is being serviced.

I no longer wish to have watches laying around that I no longer wear. But also highly agree with a previous statement made. I do prefer quality over quantity. And have moved in that direction over the years. I ended up with a couple very accurate and dependable pieces.

I have too many but not enough of the right ones. A few I once loved but have grown past, and a couple I wish I'd never bought.

I did at one point promise myself I'd never get rid of or trade off another watch, and for quite a while I've stuck too that, but it's limiting.

One for each of my schizophrenic personalities . . . . Today, I am 007. Tomorrow, maybe Chuck Yeager or Sir Edmund Percival Hillary.... or, then again, Paul Newman....

You have enough when you need financing to buy the next one

Personal choice, IMO.

I currently have 7 watches that I thoroughly enjoy rotating, but have always seen 10 as a good number for me and my lifestyle.
(I’ve also got a bunch of G Shocks, a Fitbit, and a couple other miscellaneous pieces that I’ve acquired over the years, but don’t count those.)

I’ll shamelessly admit: I just love watches, and go with the flow of what becomes available to add to my little stable.

Once you start noticing there’s a watch you’re not wearing, you have too many.
