What do you look for in a Rolex?

Everyone’s got their own reasons in buying a Rolex, what’s yours?
For me, first & foremost is their tanky-build (i’m abit clumsy & have knocked them many times over when walking) then the dial colour & design.

The look and the build quality for the price point.

Not confined to Rolex.

Design and colour for me

You could pick virtually any sport model and see it on someone else’s wrist and think that Rolex nailed it.

Plus they really get the colour dials just right. So many other watch brands try to do colour dials and they just don’t work.

They tell the time accurately enough, look good, and have no problem going where I go, daily. That’s all I need.

I think Rolex has everything I'm looking for - reliable, durable, waterproof, antimagnetic, timeless design, ease of use, great RSC service, and retains value well. When I bought my first Rolex I was expecting these qualities, now that I own several I'm even more sure of it.

Investment. I find them ugly but I just enjoy flipping them after wearing them on tiktok and Instagram. I quit my job and flip Rolexes. What’s cool about it is that I flipped so much of them, I’ve become something called “trusted” in the community.

Thanks to everybody allowing me to exploit everyone while buying a new German car to fit in my summer house garage.

I just buy what I like. Sometimes it’s Rolex.

Only reason to buy a Rolex is value retention.
Personally I've moved away from worrying about that and bought an ALS Saxonia Thin and Breguet tradition 7027, true hand finished high horology pieces for stainless steel mass produced Rolex money, they are on a totally different level but loose value so that appears to be the main reason most buyers avoid them and buy Rolex instead, plus Rolex is king of the high Street and brand recognition for the masses

I guess, if all you’re going to do is sit in a chair, look at them, and hope they appreciate. But if you’re actually going to live in your watch, you know, run, swim, go for a hike with your SO, then you might consider getting down from the high horology horse and slumming it with the proletariat, etc.

BTW, your new piece is beautiful!

This poll should have been made to allow for multiple answers. I would choose the top three, as they are equally important for my choice in watches.

Voted 2 but could also be 1 or 3.
(4 or 5 not my cup of tea)

As an appreciator of watches across the spectrum, regarding Rolex I chose “iconic status and history.” Quality/reliability and color/design is something I continue to encounter and enjoy in a variety of brands, and hype or investment are not part of my approach. But Rolex is almost unique in its cultural significance…perhaps the most recognized watch brand in the world, while also happening to excel at the other things too
