I do not believe much if any 36mm Explorers have been delivered. I sense this because so few are on-line for sale. My AD has not seen one yet and I am a good bit down the list.

I'm pretty new here, not really much of a poster but this thread is great. I recently picked up an Explorer II from a (don't hit me) grey market dealer and paid all the wood for it. Honestly, I just accept it for what it is. It was still minty fresh, most of the stickers still on it and as an added bonus its educational because the manual is in Spanish!!

I'm working up the stomach to get my grail Pepsi GMT, this has been a good year so I might have to give myself a Christmas present but who knows.

I don't even bother with our local ADs in Dallas, I am pretty much a nobody and from the horror stories I have heard I figure since I'm not 6 or 7 watches deep from one or on the Dallas Cowboys I probably stand zero chance of snagging anything. I guess I am just too tired to complain. lol.

I'm beginning to believe we just have happen to have the gold standard of jewelry/watch retailers in NYC.
Have to agree with you, I too have been to many of the shops you mention, plus several jeweler/AD’s in the NJ suburbs and have never had a problem. Always friendly, engaging and professional and most of them don’t know me from Adam.

I live in Tokyo and I have a similar experience to you. The boutique people are super nice and always have great conversations with them, not just about watches but generally.

I went to the Rolex boutique on 53rd street and Madison Ave in NYC. I purchased my SS Submariner Date, 36mm white dial DateJust, and my 39mm White dial OP from them.

I couldn’t believe what I saw. I would say 90% of the display cases were empty.

To my surprise though. They had a SS Submariner Date, 41mm green dial OP, 36mm black dial OP, and other several sought out models. One issue was, they had ‘ Exhibition Display Only.” Inside the cases.

You could try them on, however you can’t purchase them.

I just don’t understand.

Supply reductions. Simple as that. Who knows what the reasons are but supply is limited everywhere, why is Rolex an exception.

I referred a friend to my AD. They opened the safe for him but only offered oysters and the exp. No Daytona, BLRO, not even a Sub! My poor friend went home with the Exp. I'm upset, offended and will soon make a post and cry about it.
