Last year I picked up a nice example of a 45GS. It has (as far as I’m aware) effectively the same manual wind, 36000 vph hi beat movement as the 45KS, but made in a different factory. There are GS / KS collectors that know way way more than me on this, but this is my understanding anyways.

Personally I find the vintage options far more interesting that most modern watches and it seems there’s a near endless list of options to buy between the 60s and 70s.

I don’t think you’ll go wrong, but as always buy the seller. There’s several well regarded sellers based in Asia.

Here’s my 45GS. My cheapest, but one of my favourite watches

All 44s and 45s were made at the Daini factory (see the little thunderbolt at 6? That’s the Daini logo) just as all 56s were made at Suwa (whirlpool).

That’s an absolutely gorgeous 4520-8000.

Thank you! Yes I absolutely love it. I have another 1969 Seiko landing tomorrow so I'll share once I have it. It's quite different to this one though.

I know a little about the Daini / Suwa factories (and the internal competition), but it's something I really must look into. All I know is that the new one I've got is a Suwa model (thanks for pointing out the difference in the logos)

I'm pretty sure this is just the start. What would be great (to me at least) would be if they used KS as the proper heritage line, re-releasing some of their greats from yesteryear.

Problem is, the hi-beat GSs were far nicer than their KS siblings. It's the earlier stuff (particularly the 44) where KS really shines.
