help on the OP 41 turquoise

hi everyone, i am new to the Rolex world. i have a decent Patek collection but never had any Rolex.

i honestly tried the OP 41 Turquoise a week back which was with a friend and i felt it is a basic but also very interesting watch- but that only a first reaction of 5min so i would not build my evaluation on it. i did a bit of research and understood the craziness behind it, but thats is fine as i seen this with many other watches. i am considering getting it (of course it will be from Grey as i have no history with any Rolex AD at all).

anyone who has this watch and has a point of view in terms of fit, or most important attraction of attention or any other views on the watch?

any feedback would be appreciated.

My suggestion: don’t get it from the grey market. Buy another Patek. It’s almost 30k for an OP when a 6119 is less than that.

“Most important attraction of attention” ?? It has a dial color that is really close to a specific Patek released a couple months ago…and that’s all.

New to the Rolex world you say? Enjoy the rabbit hole, but expect to get responses that span the gamut if you ask TRF members about buying a 3-hand steel watch which is still in production for 30k.

My personal thoughts? Not worth even 8k.

Fight me.

This!
It’s really crazy how a very basic watch has that crazy premium!
It’s social media and hype leading to a crazy demand……………. Did I stress CRAZY enough?

Well depends if you are buying to wear the hype or the watch its a nice watch but when these colour dial that were first introduced way back in the 1970s, then poor sellers. But that was before todays hype and hype sells watches bet grey dealers are jumping for joy for getting the crazy prices than some are willing to pay.

i tried the turquoise, yellow and red OP and finally chose the red one. the turquoise is a bit too feminine to me and i prefer the sharper red colour over the yellow. its now my daily wearer and certainly it gets lot of attentions from my friends and colleagues.

I wouldn’t pick it up. Not only is it not really all that aesthetically appealing, to me it represents everything wrong in the hobby right now. I wouldn’t wear it in public.

Don’t buy the Tiffany blue at grey even if you can afford it. Buying it at that price point will just fan the flames and promote it even more. I’m not against the grey market (as I got mine from one), but the crazy markups on certain models, including this one isn’t something I would like to support. Maybe check other models or brands that are actually worth that much $$$.

I got a chance to try on an OP41 Turquoise a couple weeks ago. I have to admit, the dial is stunning. But my finances cannot justify the market price.

I disagree with others. If you like it and can comfortably afford it, get it. Why should you “suffer” (first world problems) and miss out on something you like and can afford just because others don’t want the market price to be supported? It’s not up to them because they’re not “in the market” for it and thus have no say in the market price for it.

At least the Patek was in real partnership with Tiffany. Spend $30K+ for a $6k watch? Must be nice to have income that is truly disposable.

I picked up the yellow op a couple of weeks ago from AD and love it. Very fun to wear on occasion. But definitely feels like and entry level watch compared to my Batman and SD43. I’d have serious buyers remorse buying at grey prices for any color.

help on the OP 41 turquoise

Don't do it. I paid $5,600 for mine and it's neat but oh my god it isn't even worth $10,000. There's other bright colored watches you can own. $35,000 would go a long way toward a serious watch.... or Fiji.

I like the OP 41s but just can’t get my head around paying the gray ask. YMMV

the OP39 white dial was classic, the new ones are nice but not worth the hype. if you have 35-50k to spare, buy another Patek.

I had a chance to buy one from an AD and I turned it down. IMO it's an ugly watch. People get caught up in the hype too easily.

The watch is beautiful… But as others have said, in reality, it’s an op41. If I was going to spend that money, it certainly would not be on that watch.

I don't like them, but if I were buying one, I would get any other OP and send it to Rolex for a dial swap.

So many better watches available for $35K. Don't by into the hype, it may not be long lived.

Never cared for the OP. Get a Submariner if you want a basic watch (not a Submariner date).

This is the cheapest most basic watch made by Rolex. It has a rounded polished bezel and oyster bracelet without glide lock or even flip over. It’s truly not worth the grey price, and I have doubts about even the MSRP…

OP, the OP41 is a great GADA watch to wear (although one of the most basic Rolex watches). In truth only the dial novelty makes the watch remotely special. If you like the basic watch go for whatever dial you can find and avoid the hype. The turquoise just isn't worth the premium that it's getting.

Thanks guys… really appreciate the feedback… keep them coming…

I thought the discussion on the Patek forum about paying 150K for a 5711 that retailer at 25K were the craziest threads until i created this one I did not know it is that much a controversey…

Honestly i would not buy any watch for hype but also hype wont stop buying a watch that i like assuming i can afford it!. At least that was my strategy with the Pateks. I am now learning the Rolex angle!

Once again thank you

I think he just asked in general, not to get chewed out from someone. If he wants to wipe his A$$ with the 30K its his to do.

Amen brother, if you can afford it go ahead. Too many haters on this thread, "oh I only buy retail and I've been waiting for X years"

If you have the luxury why not?

They won't? My wife bought a new black dial 31mm DJ and we were told Rolex would replace the dial within six months if we wanted. At our cost, of course.

I imagine coming from Patek, that an OP would prove to be pretty disappointing once the novelty of a pretty blue dial wore off. My wife has a white 31 mm with blue numbers that she loves, and I think it looks nice too. But, as others have stated, it's a very basic Rolex, so compared to finely finished, exhibition caseback Pateks, it might be disappointing. But if you want it and decide it's worth the market price to you, go for it! Who can begrudge someone buying something they want for a price they are willing to pay?
