This is the Rolex Datejust reference 116138. The Datejust is Rolex’s staple, their best selling and most famous dress model in the Rolex lineup. The Datejust was originally released in 1945 as the first automatic watch with a date function. Released in 2004, this reference marked the start of Rolex adding a sixth digit to their references.

Through the years, the Datejust has evolved greatly with all sorts of different configurations. This particular variant is known as the onyx because of the onyx stone dial material that is utilised for the dial. As with onyx dials on this reference, it has diamonds on the 6 and 9 indices and is born on a leather strap with fixed endlinks.

Stone dials have grown in popularity in recent years, with pristine examples being fairly hard to come by. The onyx dial has proven to be very popular due to the layer of depth that it adds to the classic dresswatch that is the Rolex Datejust.

Condition

This Rolex Datejust 116138 is in excellent pre-owned condition. There are very minimal signs of prior wear with no marks on the case. The strap is close to unworn condition. The factory onyx dial has no flaws. It also retains its original boxes and a service card marking a Rolex service in March 2021.
