Two Tone Sub Availability?

Hello all…

I’m new to Rolex but have been wanting one for about as long as I can remember. My wife and I are celebrating our 15th anniversary this year, as well as my 40th birthday, and she gave me the go ahead to take the plunge…Provided she gets that Greece vacation she’s been wanting to take since we got married 😂. I traveled down the rabbit hole and eventually found this site. Totally shocked that a person can’t simply walk into a store and pick up a watch. I’ve had a couple Omega’s about fifteen years ago and never imagined this type of craziness would surround high end watches but I digress…I’m not looking to kick off a full on collection but rather a daily wearer that I can put some history on to hand down to my son someday.

I had my eye on a black dial Deepsea, visited a couple AD’s here in Vegas and got added to the infamous “list”. They all told me that model (Deepsea) was one of the easier models to obtain so I was for sure I’d have one in no time. Got a call last weekend but it wasn’t the call I was waiting for…SA said the wait for the Deepsea would be substantially longer than anticipated due to a new variation being released and the older models being discontinued. Needless to say I was a bit let down by this new info. Called a couple of the other AD’s I’d visited and they basically told me the same thing. Demand had gone up for model apparently and it’s always a slog waiting for new models to eventually hit the market.

Fast forward to this past week at work and a client came through wearing a steel and gold Submariner. I told him I was looking to get a Rolex and he was kind enough to let me try it on. Love at first sight…

So now I’m fairly sure this is the model I’d rather have over the Deepsea. So I figured I’d turn to the experts with a couple questions…First off do you all think it would be easier to get the Submariner in comparison to the new Deepsea’s? I’d think it would be since the Deepsea is now a “new” design. Secondly does everybody recommend letting the SA’s know that I’m no longer interested in the Deepsea but rather the Submariner? I don’t want them to think down on me for putting them through the effort at getting one model then change my mind and go after another is all. Since I don’t have any previous sales history with these places and I don’t really plan on buying any other watches aside from this one…The heart wants what the heart wants but I’m afraid they’ll just write me off all together and not give me either model.

Welcome buddy!
Any Rolex is hard to come by, more so the two tone Sub. I suggest you visit the best grey dealer in the area and try and as many models as u can to get a feel for the watch vis a vis your wrist size. Take it from there and read as many posts u can over the last 6 months here. All the best.

My simplistic view is this, the smaller the % overs in the grey market the easier the watch is to get from an AD. (I think that's pretty logical)

The easiest Rolex diver going by that metric is the SD43 in steel or TT (TT will be easiest)

I also think the SD43 is the best diver they do.

hello friend!
i think it is easier to get a black SDDS than a two ton submariner. Sign up for the list at several ADs in smaller cities and I believe you will get it in 6 months.

Thanks for the advice everybody.

Think I’ll just stay on the list for the Deepsea and hope for he best. I really want the Submariner now, but if the wait for it will be even longer than that of the “new” Deepsea then yeah I’ll just probably put that down as a loss. Not looking to wait years to get one. Also definitely not looking to support an aftermarket seller in any form or fashion. It’s just absurd to me that a person can’t walk into a shop and buy a single watch at this point. Very frustrating…

Also I should note that I’m in Las Vegas so the demand for Rolex is higher here than most smaller cities would be. This whole thing is maddening…

You should treat the fact that an SA called you about the DeepSea as very encouraging. At least your info did not end up in the garbage. You should drop by that AD and let them know of your new interest in the T/T sub. If the SA interested in selling you a watch, he/she should give you an idea of how long your wait will be.

DO NOT mention that this will be your only Rolex watch purchase. In this market, ADs are able to pick who they sell a watch to and they will always give priority to someone building a collection (repeat buyer) over a 'one and done' buyer.

Good luck.

I don't know, I would think that two tone us less desirable than stainless, even with these different models. Go in and tell them the truth, a client let you try on their Sub, you loved it, and would now like a Sub instead, if they could make that happen it would be great.

My advice, be honest, tell them what you want. Let time be what it is.

I was foaming at the mouth for a T/T Blue Sub. Yesterday, BOOM, got the call.

I think you can drop by the AD and mention to him that you are also open to buying a TT sub. Give the AD more options will mean easier for them to fulfil. However this does not mean you should list too many models. I feel the DSSD and TT sub are 2 great watches to start with. Best of luck!

Be honest and tell them what you want. I waited about two months and got the TT black sub with no purchase history. I did buy a Tag that I really wanted and who woulda thunk it, the following week I got the sub.

Agree with this, when I picked up my TT Seadweller I phone an AD I had bought from to make enquiries and was told yes we have one in stock it’s yours if you want it.
You say you wanted a Deepsea so obviously like big watches, I would seriously think about the SD43 in SS or TT.
