True collectors and the tanking Rolex market

How many of you will still squeeze the trigger once the market burns out ?

I personally only have a couple more I want as it is but truth be told, I kind of like the anticipation and waiting game of getting an in demand piece at retail. I still will buy what I want at MSRP but walking in and getting it whenever I feel like will definitely have a different feeling.

Maybe the new fun will be working to get a discount at the AD in the near future.

True collectors and the tanking Rolex market

Just not interested in the modern rolex offerings. I feel the new versions are charactures of the 4/5 digits that built the brand. I am much more drawn to the tudor offerings in the past few years. Now, if the 5 digit GMT market tanks, I may pull the trigger.

Even if Rolex return to selling under MSRP like it was when I got into it, I will still be buying and enjoying watches that interest me. Nothing would have changed.

I’m on the other end of the spectrum. So for me the market doesn’t matter as I’ll buy MSRP almost exclusively.

Wanting what’s not easy to get (FOMO) is about 50% of the current demand. If that dynamic were to go away it won’t be a soft landing for the greys and a rude awakening for the ADs. For those of us who’ve never paid over retail not much will have changed.

I’m enjoying watching it come down some. Lots of vintage and neo vintage I got my eye on. Unfortunately it seems to be mostly the new stuff that’s coming down in price.

Market doesn’t bother me. MSRP from my local AD or nothing. If I want to spend double What a Rolex is worth then I will buy brands like Moser, Lange

I doubt the market is going to crash and burn though…still way too much demand for the supply

I can't wait for the day I can walk into my AD and not only buy the no date sub I've been wanting but demand the snooty manager knock off enough a discount to offset tax.

The way things are going in the world I have a feeling that day might come sooner than a lot of people think.

Things will slow down but you’re still not walking in and getting a hot watch (99%) of the time.. shelves will slowing come back with TT, ladies, PM, diamonds, then DJ, DD, that sort of thing. Getting a SS professional will still be for the initiated

The Rolex market will never “tank”. IF/when you can freely walk in to a AD and buy a high volume SS DJ41 might be a sign we are getting back to the Rolex market of 3 years ago. We are not even close to that yet. The good old days of msrp are laughably gone.

Another my AD says. But demand is way down from a few months ago. New releases in particular lower demand than even years past.

Still waitlists. Still huge demand. But significantly less.

Production and supply chains improving.

I’m a new buyer only never used 2nd hand. So I don’t care about used prices. Others can discuss that as much as they’d like.

But availability is opening up more for new buyers.. slowly, a little bit, and for most references. Waitlists for the top 5 super hypes are still infinitely long.

Still a policy of allocating 1 watch per year per customer as a goal while demand is high.

Lots of Daytonas and Pepsi and Cermit come in. Not a rare allocation just high demand. Milgauss and Skydweller still rare allocations.

I’m looking to purchase about 9 watches over the next 10 years or so. Should be on track to have a complete collection around then. But I’m sure things will change.

Looking for 1 vintage piece that I’m hoping to see prices drop on.

Looking forward to the next gen Daytona especially if they go high beat and add more colors and bracelets.

"True Collectors" don't have any issues. Collecting is a lifelong passion and the hunt is just as satisfying as finding another prize. True Collectors aren't Internet shopping for the latest hot models because of FOMO.

And, what "tanking Rolex market"? There is a years long list of buyers for every watch that Rolex makes, and a robust secondary market for all the classics.

Your top tier SS Professional models are only possible for their mega spenders. Normal enthusiast don’t stand a chance.

I can attest that walking into a strange AD while on vacation, wearing shorts and flip flops after drinking tequila all day and offering 20% under MSRP with a case full of SS Sport models to choose from is a lot better than this current FOMO BS.

The current Rolex market reminds me of the Beanie Baby craze, complete with people losing their minds over recently discontinued models with bright colors and funny names, listing them for insane prices on that new thing they called eBay

I don’t care whether prices drop or not. I simply wish to receive the pieces I want within a reasonable timeframe without having to kiss ass so much. If it takes the watch market to tank for that to happen, then let it all come down.

My AD said I can have a Milgauss whenever I want but will have to wait at least another year for a Daytona, and that's not even for the super hot Daytonas.

Each AD gets a different allocation of watches. It’s not identical to each store. Your ADs likely get more Milgauss and lower demand for Milgauss and fewer of the other references. You can ask your AD what their allocations are like, they might tell you or they might not. Can’t hurt to just ask.

What Rolex produces would not even make my top 10 at this point.

I cannot see myself ever buying another one. Far too many higher quality and better innovations to explore and consider buying.

If the prices come down even better…but frankly I get what I’ll wear and skip the hype. The idea that the market is about to crash and burn is overblown. Demand is still high and Rolex makes a finite luxury good. Vintage and modern markets are separate entities - vintage market somewhat more insulated because, well, they aren’t making any more of those.
