Half Gold Sub Retail Price

Guys,

I am being offered a half gold blue sub (126613LB) at retail.

Can I know, given the current situation of the market, is it still a good buy?

I am not buying to flip, but just worried about a potential crash.

Appreciate any point of view but please don't flame...

Half gold? Do you mean two-tone?

The whole point is to buy what you like at the price point that you like…

IMO even at this time, getting any SS/TT sports model at list price still a "good buy"

Keep it simple, forget the “value” element. You either want it or not

Uh if you’re not looking to flip why do you care about a ‘market crash’?

Buy it if you really like it.

For any given purchase, there will always be infinitely more "better" placements for your money.

Consider the funds spent on it as something you've never had and never going to recover, stop worrying and enjoy life.

Very odd,
Value is with the enjoyment of wearing a timepiece of desire. Not "the market"

I think what the OP is trying to say is:

I want a Rolex but I don't want it to drop below RRP. If I can Flex the Rolex and not cost me a penny then I will buy it. Of course, I hope it will go up too so I can sell it in the future.

Just go for something that stretches your wallet less and you won’t have to worry about resale value.

Don’t complicate your life.

Only buy watches if you like them.

The days of getting easy 50%+ profits are gone for most models now and getting harder by the day. Soon you'll be lucky to break even on most watches.

If you dont like it leave it for someone that does.

Yes, Yes. sorry Two-Tone Blue Sub (126613LB).

Let me rephrase.

I do like the watch. I am wondering if it is a good price to get at retail or if a future crash can drive the resale price below retail (as with two tone watches previously) and I buy it then?

I guessed this was what you were asking; but rather than ask the forum i would suggest consulting septic peg for a tarot reading on the future of watch market.

I don't ever see a day in the future when the resale price of a 126613LB will be below retail. I do however see a day when sellers will be offered less than the retail price for it: given the margin that the pre-owned seller needs to make, offers of below retail are foreseeable. I have a friend who picked this watch up six months or so ago (but he did not really want it - he is waiting for a full gold one) and assumed it would be an easy flip for a good profit : but right now he is being offered a profit of Ł1,000 above retail, which he is disappointed with......

So the leap from offers of Ł1,000 above retail to below retail is not too hard to imagine?

Before all of this hype around 5 or ten years ago I used to think to myself ,If I can get a watch and wear it for 5-10 years and maybe still get most of my money back if I ever needed it then its a good buy.
Although I was more concerned if I actually liked the watch or not

If you like it and you trust the seller, buy it. If you don't like it or don't trust the seller or both, don't buy it.

If an AD is offering the beautiful 126613LB and MSRP there is nothing strange going on and you are fortunate. If it's someone who you know for certain owns a genuine watch in good working order, you have a bargain. If a friend of a friend or a stranger is offering it at MSRP, it's most likely fake or stolen.

It sounds like you have a doubt. If there is a doubt there is no doubt.

Price is high right now unless you buy at the AD.

Given that if you are worried about losing money with the price dropping you should wait.

We should see price drops in the next few months

If you truly like the watch and plan on keeping it you shouldn't be worried about potential resale value.

Maybe.

You either want to buy a watch or you don’t. If value is telling you not to buy then don’t.

Like anything, future market value could be higher or lower than what you pay.

If you buy it with the idea of trying it out to see if you like it, you should know in a couple of months. If you don’t enjoy it and want to move it on, I don’t think you will get massively hurt if you decide to move on from it.

OP, impossible to tell how the price will evolve going forward. Personally, I thnk it's a great buy at MSRP because I love this watch and to me it's a great value pound for pound, compared to sports steel.

If for some reason I needed to urgently let it go and trade it in today to a dealer, I would just about break even, perhaps lose a few hundred euros where I live. Dealers typically take between 30 and 35% gross margin on the market value.

I can't stress enough how cool this watch feels on the wrist. The dial in on another level. The gold adds a nice touch, makes a change from the typical utilitarian vibe.

Good luck with your decision.

I don’t see this model being offered below retail anytime soon. If you really like it, buying at retail is a good option.

If you care about the value of the watch you probably will sell at some point. Buy the watch to enjoy it. You can make more money investing in other assets than watches.

Sounds like you are not really into the watch if re-sale value is your over-riding criterion.
