What is the point of owning an ROLEX GMT if you cannot wear it when Travel?
I'm living in an Southeast Asian country, and although many think my country is not safe, actually we can wear the expensive watch on the street and don't worry much about getting thief.
But when travel to other countries , the story is completely different. I don't know about the U.S, But when someone who have beautiful watches travel to European , especially some of the biggest City there like London, Paris, Madrid, Milan... People always say don't wear nice watches on the street... Because the thief always there waiting for expensive watches. I mean those countries are the most developed in the world, not some place like India, Iraq... And still cannot stop the thief? Can someone who live in those countries confirm if those warning is true or not? Maybe Rolex should invent some anti-thief Bracelet? because their watches is so popular/eyes-catching that can be seen by thief from far distance? |

An anti-theft bracelet would force the criminal to use a machete to hack your hand off to get your watch. Not a good idea.

India is pretty developed, mate. And quite safe to wear your GMT and other watches in public as long as you are sensible about it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I think it's blown well out of proportion with the news articles that are shared on here, TBH. Sure, you will have a couple instances where people get robbed, but does that mean I'm not going to carry a wallet because there were 5 occurrences of pickpockets over the last month over millions of people? Hardly.
Just insure it, don't flaunt it, and you should be okay to enjoy what you wear anywhere in the world. |

Shelter in place, grow your own food...preferably indoors..., and buy a big heavy expensive safe.

It’s a country of a billion plus people. Like any other large city anywhere in the world, there will be dodgy pockets, which are avoidable. You don’t really hear of any violent crime surrounding watch thefts or someone hacking off your arm to steal your gold Rolex. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

a holographic image that visuallly presents the watch as a timex to anyone who is not wearing the holographic transmitter. unfortunately your concerns are warranted and the solutions are not available.

If you have to worry about wearing a watch when you go somewhere, do yourself a favor and don't buy an expensive watch. I wear any watch I own, anywhere. They are insured and if something happens, so be it. I will not live my life like that and if I were to worry that much about it, I wouldn't buy watches.

Isn't because of the Media/Rolex Scarcity, the thefts know more about what they should "looking" for?

Use situational awareness and common sense.
I’m pretty sure there are rough parts of just about any city where you wouldn’t wear expensive things or drive through in an expensive car etc. |

I don't have a solution to propose, but I find OP your thought process fascinating. It is indeed ironic that people can no longer travel with their GMT, which is designed for travel.
Also from what I can see, it's not thefts that people have to guard against for their watch, it's robberies. What kind of device can you think of that can prevent the criminals from forcefully removing a watch from someone's wrist? What about the situation where victims are forced to hand over their watch at gunpoint or knifepoint? |

I live in India and regularly wear my Rolex watches. No issues whatsoever. India has stores selling Rolex watches in all major cities. Currently in Sydney on vacation but decided not to bring my Rolex as I am not comfortable removing it while going through security checks at the airport.

tbh i don't even wear a watch to tell time. most definitely don't wear a gmt for travelling purposes. if I don't feel safe I won't wear any expensive watches, simple.

The USA is very safe, in general. But let's consider the city of Los Angeles. 1) You land at the airport (safe) 2) Take an uber to your hotel (safe) [Select hotel in a clean part of town] 3) Walk to a nearby mall (safe) 4) Eat dinner at a nearby restaurant (safe) 5) Next day go to Disneyland, or Queen Mary, a museum (safe) However, there are many places that are not safe whether you wear a Rolex or not. LA crime map. Stay away from the high crime places and there's no issue. Follow the same advice with any large city. https://products.xtown.la/map And of course neighboring Orange County is safer still - don't even need to stay "in" LA itself. |

I think it matters more the neighbourhood not the city. Also the time of day. Walking through a downtown alley at night vs Main Street in broad day light. The details matter as per usual.

I've traveled to both NYC and London with my Rolex and somehow managed to avoid getting robbed. I've worn it here at home, at work, at the gym and again survived.
I agree with @V25V.

India has a billion people mate and a zillion cities. Most of our cities are pretty well developed. Just like any other country follow situational awareness, thats it.

Conflating ‘is it safe’ in general terms with ‘is it safe to wear and be an ignorant peacock flaunting being rude bringing attention to oneself wearing prestige brand accessories that identify with wealth in areas where the GDP per capita is the watch value and not taking a second to occasionally see what’s around you’ are not the same thing.

Why not? We shouldn’t discriminate simply because there’s more cameras and cell towers and people with more time to consume media in NA & Europe than other regions. |
