Officers Down, Bristol PD, Connecticut

Sergeant Dustin Demonte and Police Officer Alex Hamzy were shot and killed yesterday while responding to a domestic violence call at a residence near Redstone Hill Road and Birch Street in Bristol at about 11:00 pm.

A third officer was also shot and was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

The subject was shot and killed during the incident.

Sergeant Demonte had served with the Bristol Police Department for ten years. He is survived by his expectant wife and two children.

Officer Hamzy served the Bristol Police Department for eight years and is survived by his wife.

Does it ever occur to Americans that you should consider maybe banning ordinary people from owning the unmentionable things that seem to be responsible for most of these tragic police deaths?

Looking over from this side of the Atlantic, the situation you have is totally incomprehensible - rather like our economic policies must look like to you guys, no doubt!

First off, you’re injecting a policy argument into the wrong thread. Second, in virtually all cases our law enforcement officers are not being harmed by weapons legally obtained and owned.

Update: Officer Alec Iurato who was also shot and seriously wounded, has since been released from the hospital.
