Some nice pieces in there for sure, and typical sponsor stuff too. Still, lots to choose from! Makes sense at his advanced age, time to cash out while the market is still bubbly.
Are proceeds going to a nice charity or watchmakers or ???? as bet a few of those were free to him so would be nice to give back to the community.

Impressive.
I need to find a way to use ‘truly elegant’ in a sentence today. |

Wow, my jaw dropped as I scrolled through.
Would be nice to snag one of the less coveted pieces for sentimental/historic reasons. This one for example. https://www.christies.com/lot/lot-63...ssummary&lid=1 |

Here’s the prize. This dial was produced for JT by FPJ after he told Mr Journe to make the dial “anything but red, I hate red”
Later FPJ ended up using this dial color/process for the chrono bleu.

What astonished me is the impressive number of one-offs that different watchmakers and watch houses made for him. I wouldn't sell watches gifted to me for any reason apart from "I really need that money now", though.

I haven’t been this excited for an auction since Newmans watch went up in 2017… Some monsters in this one!
If it’s a charitable auction it’s gonna go bonkers. |

The text spacing on some FPJ dials is just horrendous, though.

True enough about that dial - since it’s a 1 of 1 you’d think that FPJ dial stamp could have been better.
I live the name of the color “Petrol Blue” as in… On the deep end of the color gradient and the actual color of the 110 fuel itself on the paler color gradient. Smells like success… Would it be too far fetched to say final cumulative auction value including premium could top $75 Million? I noted that all the Richard Mille lots came with a free service and 2 yr warranty. Should the new owners all avail themselves of that offer, RM’s service Dept interval would spike to years instead of months. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Some of those estimated values are quite affordable, much to my surprise.
Too bad there isn't a "buy now" option. Of course, they'd be gone in a heartbeat. The ones with the lowest estimates are the ones that appeal to me most in terms of aesthetics. Very interesting.

Can’t believe one person owns all that and those are just the ones on the chopping block.

You’re right but for some reason it doesn’t bother me in the slightest. I’m definitely an FP apologist lol I think the centigraphe is far better looking and the one I’d want personally. But the story behind the other one adds to the allure.

If I heard well at the beginning, some money goes to charity. I think the auction was interesting anyway, because the selling price of some watches became much higher than the estimated value, but some watch was sold almost at the minimum estimated.
In the same time, a new 1 million Rolex "was born", and the RMs changed hands for quite serious sums, but most of these prices were within the expected price range. |

Holy cow somebody actually bid 50k on a 5 digit gold sub. I had that same watch in my hands at a grey dealer 6 years ago and he was only asking 15K

Interesting results, the market is still strong.

I agree with you.
At the same time, I think it is also worth considering that they sold many truly unique watches, for example the very first RM. Moreover, these watches are all part of history because of the former owner and the part of the sum will go to charity. If I look at the prices in this way and compare them to the James Bond auction, then I don't think the prices were shocking. Of course, this auction did not disappoint anyone, but I believe that in severl cases on a really strong market, much higher sales prices could have been realized. |

Check out the date dial on the Aquanaut Travel time, the spacing is horrendous, it's like they squeeze it all in from 11th onwards. the 1st and 31st are literally hugging one another. |

I think JT might have been a little too late if he was trying to cash in his watches. A lot of pieces although they meet their respective estimates, I would expect them to be way higher considering who the owner is and its one-off status. Some of the pieces were even MS personal gift to JT. Clear sign that the market is in decline considering auction results have often been over the top. Still a lot of money and watches that traded hands.
