Another one bites the dust?!
Some disappointing news for my first post on a forum that has kept me entertained throughout a long two years!
It looks like Martin Jewelers in Cranford NJ have lost their AD status. All mentions of Rolex gone from website/Instagram as of a few weeks ago. Interestingly, Tudor remains. Nice folks in there, and a lovely owner, who has been good to me over the years. Not made it in over the past few months but it's been a similar story as most other local ADs... empty cases, low allocation. I think their days were numbered the minute the Short Hills boutique opened up. The decline of the mom & pop AD continues... |

Yes, I was there two weeks ago, bought an Aqua Terra. They saw this coming for two years, like you said, the boutique in Short Hills.
I’ve bought so many watches from them over the years, my first Omega, all my Rolex’s, plus lots of other jewelry, gifts, so many other nice services. It is a place that customers like, and where Rolex should want their products sold. They’re building out their Omega displays, taking on another brand or two, the staff is friendly and professional, so many people in the area have been dealing with Martin for many years. They’ll do fine.

I used Sherman Jewelers in Flemington, NJ for my last service on my GMT back in 2010. They were an AD back then. When I went in to get my Dad's GMT serviced a couple weeks ago, I noticed that they were no longer an AD (but still had access to send the watch in for servicing). I asked the owner and he said they stopped being an AD several years ago because Rolex wasn't giving them watches to sell. They only gave them stunt watches to put in the display case. Basically he implied that jewelry stores don't make any money by making lists for watches. They make money by selling actual watches. Nice people there. I recommend them.

Which dealer owns the Short Hills Boutique? Anecdotally a dealer that commits to a Rolex only Boutique will get the highest level of inventory AND a certain level of territory exclusivity, although in big urban areas they can seem pretty close together.

I think it’s London Jewelers, not absolutely certain. Ironically, someone on here said they are discontinuing their Rolex franchise in the WTC and have no outlets in Northern NJ. Not sure what the logic is. The boutique in Short Hills is anything but an inviting place to shop, in my opinion.
