Crown sticking out too far on sky dweller jubilee

Gday all
I have just picked up my new sky dweller and have noticed that when the crown is wound tight there is still a gap between the lug and bottom edge of the crown.
Is this normal and should i be concerned about the waterproofing.

On the SkyD its normal. The crown sticks out a little from the watch head.

I’ve even seen variants on crown “gaps” on Submariners in person comparing 5513 ref to 16610 to a 116040. Very, very small deviations wouldn’t even know unless your being “scrupulous” lol.

I didn’t know you owned this aswell nice - I have the silver dial in YG. do you own any steel pieces at all or do you only wear PM?

No Rolex crown is meant to be flush with the case, there is a seal in the crown head, all that's needed with any Rolex crown is just screwing down finger tight no force is needed. And metal to metal contact cannot form a seal that's what's the seal in the crown head does, so there will always be a very very slight gap between crown and case.

I would say the sky-dwellers stick out a little more than others though, would you agree?

Yes thats possible but the crown and crown stem is completely different to the rest of the Rolex line up but still nothing to worry about..

Thanks Bud. Yeah I only wear 100% PM now. I still got some SS but I gave a SS Sub to my brother and a SS GMT to my best friend. No point as I dont wear SS for several years already.

Yep - I believe the SkyD crown sticks out slightly more than other models due to the command ring bezel. Thats what I read somewhere.

Beauty.. I still tend to wear my ss more frequently, and PM’s more for going out etc I often change it up during the day.

Also careful screwing in the crown on the sky dweller there was a period of time where they had the propensity to cross thread if done quickly and with force.

That's because the seal is in the crown head and not metal to metal contact all normal on all Rolex modern day Rolex watches.

Seems the crown on the SkyDweller is protruding more than on other models, I just checked my other models without a crown guard eg the DateJust and they fit more snugly against the case.

A simple word big boys frequently use is "tolerances." Every manufacturing process should have tolerances to which the design adheres. This generally means that no two parts are identical but fall within a spectrum of adherence. Rolex watches and crown protrusion are no exception.

The crown protrusion seems coherent across Sky Dweller models so it must have something to do with the design intself.
