Reentry into Tudor?

I tried on the Pelagos 39 and thought it was lovely. Very similar look to the black Submariner. Unfortunatley no stock so joined the list!

To OP, why not the classic BB58?

I was in my AD on the 13th. There Tudor case was completely full. They had ordered in advance for the holiday season. They ARE holding the Pelagos 39mm in reserve and not on display. If a customer request one they are available for sale. Just not in the case.

Around here the pro, BB58's and chronographs are the fastest movers with the BB58 Blue being the number one seller.

I have been more excited about the direction Tudor is headed the past five or so years, especially when compared against Rolex. However, I am not a fan of the fake rivet bracelets.

I am waiting for a P39 myself and I guess it speaks volumes that, for the first time in over 10 years, I am considering a new acquisition.

Strongly considered BB58 — but I’m a young guy (at least by TRF / watch world standards) and like to wear more modern watches. To the extent the BB58 is an homage to divers of old I think ~$4000 is a lot to pay for that niche purpose, and other brands are putting out less costly retro divers, although clearly many many folks disagree with me.

BB58 really is such a fantastic watch, the size is near perfect. With you not being in to the homage styling, BB58 blue wins for me.

The Pro and Pelagos 39 are both great options too + they have the newer/better bracelet, hopefully you can somehow try them all on during one visit

here is my trio. I got the ETA back in 2015 and was my daily for several years until i got the GMT in early 2019. Currently i daily the GMT as with the uncle seiko bracelet its lighter and more comfy. Panda was this March 2022.

out of the three you listed, bb58 blue would be my pick as its the least homagey. But if i were getting another Tudor, id consider the FXD and ceramic.

I’ve read many reviews of the BBGMT but not one has identified that the Rolex GMT 6542 of the 1950s is indeed the inspiration behind Tudor’s first GMT, even down to the design of the 6542’s rivet bracelet. So thanks for finally clarifying this mystery.

We can now definitively say that all Tudor’s BB rivet bracelets are inspired by the Rolex professional watches from this period.

The BB58 has a nice soft/warm look about it. It's a ideal size, not to thick, good movement and wears nice on several different bands and straps. There is a lot to like about this watch. I love the blue, but the black dial is especially inviting. It would make a excellent watch for a young man for a GADA watch that checks all the right box's.

I’ve been in this game long enough to remember when GADA (and a few others, like “strap monster”) wasn’t even a thing but you’re right, it’s a nice piece, IMO in all colors (black, blue, and the silver). I’ll probably get a pelagos 39 as my reentry into the brand, but out of prudence will give it a few days for that sweet sweet bonus to splash down into my account.

Pelagos 39 — tried this on and liked it. Thought seemed similar to a Sub, not sure if I totally “get” the marketing (which involves extremely slender women at hotel pools) but marketing aside it’s a fine watch

BB58 — would likely be looking at the blue model on a bracelet because prefer not having faux patina

BB pro wears like. 5 digit seadweller in my opinion.

I have a BB58 blue on bracelet. Also picked up several MN style straps. Very versatile. If you want a blue pop the SM300 is brighter. The Tudor BB58 blue is sort of denim. Brighter in direct light but, in dim light it blends in well.

Ordered an FXD and am now just waiting- AD hopes by end of year, but I am not in a rush. I love the watch- it really checks a lot of boxes for me.

I have the Black Bay pro almost since it came out, only waited a few weeks to get it.

It hasnt come of my wrist since, been swimming in the ocean, chopping wood, done work in construction, been drivin my mountain bike, wore it in the gym...

You hardly see a hair scratch, the steel is amazing, its one hell of a sturdy watch...

checks all the boxes, a little underrated: only for enthousiasts, cool heritage, available, doesnt make you a dandy, you can wear it all day in any situation, and if you really must sell it, you still get a decent amount of money.

What else do you want from a watch?

I like the black bay models except I think the cases are a little too big. Is it a design choice or is it the movement?

It's not the movement with the original ETA models. The Tudor/ETA2824 fits inside a 32mm case, and it's only 4.8mm thick. Not sure about the later in-house.

The original BB case was less than 1mm thicker than its contemporary Rolex Submariner, but looked thicker due to the flat sides, which gave the watch a flat caseback, making it more comfortable on the wrist, in my opinion, than the Sub's convex caseback.
