I once flew home from Phoenix AZ. to Providence, RI seated between 2 big guys, in June. Life sucked for those 4 or 5 hours but whatever, it's over now.
Eventually if you fly with one carrier enough you will "earn" preferred seating at the front of the plane.

You had better buy a pair of Bose Quiet Comfort noise reduction headphones. They are worth their weight in gold on a flight like you are about to have.

I had that once, sitting in the middle seat between 2 large people. I felt like I was the jelly in a jelly sandwich being squeezed from both sides!!

Years ago I met a guy who had been in a plane crash. He was sitting in one of the back seats against the rear bulkhead. He was one of the few survivors. Now he won't fly unless he gets that seat.

As long as we're going for sympathy Frankie.. I'm an Executive Platinum on American, what that means is I spend more time on an airplane then most flight attendants... so I USUALLY get upgraded to First. Right now, I'm in NY, but leaving tomorrow for the 6-Hour flight back home to San Diego. I'm in a similar situation in that even though I get my pick of seats, I'm WAAAAAAAYYYYY in the back for this one. I'm PRAYING I get updgraded to first, actually turned down upgrades on a couple other of the legs of this trip in the hope that would be good carma for the Airline GODS... since I didn't have First then, I should have it this flight. Everyone, wish me luck... PLEASE!

Hey Frankie,

Here are some advantages of being at the very back of the plane.

1. All the hanky-panky goes on there.

2. You'll survive any and every possible crash there is.

3. Terrorists on board usually take the seats in the middle and right behind the pilot's cabin!!

4. You get to eat all the left-overs!!

Now what the hell you griping about, tosser?

I actually don't mind the back for that reason - you're nearer to the bathroom.

Did you know about this?

I think Southwest has a policy for fat people too.

Oh, and going off on an extreme tangent... have you heard that the Swine Flu fatalities in "young, healthy people" were people who were obese?

One time I had this large person sitting next to me and wanted to know if they could put the armrest up. I felt really bad for that person trying to sit in those small seats and felt bad for saying no but I just wasn't going to be totally squished into a half seat.

It's a shame because the airlines wanted to save on costs and started making the seats smaller and smaller than what they used to be years ago.

I cannot stand flying anymore. Even though it is not bad in first class, it's still a pain taking so much time out going to the airport and waiting at the airport, especially after 9/11.

Great News everyone! I am now sitting in Row 5 on the way to Scottsdale Arizona!

Yahooooooo!! Thank goodness for being able to check-in early online

Keeping my fingers crossed for the return flight, hopefully I will be able to score a better seat.

That's great news but you know that this means that you won't be getting the Royal Treatment in the back.
