Buyer Beware !!

Hi guys,

I got the following info from my friend, Padi, so here goes....for the benefit of all!!

Latest scam in counterfeiting Rollies...and from the Italians!!

Step 1:
- take a brand new SS Sub-date (16610), box, papers and all - everything genuine.
- take out the original 3135 movement and replace it with a cheap 21-jewel auto.
- Now sell of this genuine Sub at full price with fake movement to some poor unsuspecting buyer who will get well and thoroughly screwed when he takes the watch in for servicing at some stage in his life.

Step 2:
- fabricate to near perfection a solid gold case (perhaps 9 K or 12 K gold, tinted over to make it appear like 18 k).
- do the same with an Oyster Fliplock bracelet.
- fabricate a near-perfect dial with matching hands, etc.
- now merely fit the authentic 3135 movement into this fake and...BINGO...you have a solid gold Sub-date.
- since this watch has no box or papers, it would still sell as used; buyer verifies authenticity...all appears genuine (to even expert's eyes), movement is 100% authentic....and presto....we have a sale with a whopping profit.

Perhaps Padi can fill us in on some more details; but what I've given you guys above is a general gist of how this scam works.

Buyer Beware!!

JJ

I read this too, but it's not solid gold Submariners they're passing off... It's fake two-tone Yachtmasters they're using the real 3135 movement in.

No JJ, just the two-tone Yachtmaster, cuz Rolex doesn't really make a full-size TT version of the YM.

LMAO!!! you post a pic of 'fakey' every time you post... it's your avatar.

BTW, just checked my brand new Rolex catalogue... no full-size TT Yachtie in it, so you better have yours double checked. And not by that fake-seller Mansor... by a REAL AD. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

LMAO!!

BTW, speaking of Rolex catalogues, I still have the Aug. 04 one. Now, is yours the A4 size and, if so, what's the date in small print on the last page?

Thanks - JJ

Canada ONLY gets the A4 size. Mine also has the 08/04 date... but my AD said it's the most current one in print.

Mansor's told me the same thing.....which accounts for the fact that there's no TT YM (40 mm) in it. This model was only introduced in March of this year.

Wow that's pretty scary. I guess your right about the fact that if a watch has a authentic movement it could easily be mistaken as a real watch. Even by a Rolex trained technician.

Thanks JJ and Padi.

It even makes more sense to buy from an authorised dealer now.

When you buy AD, the worries are gone before they appear, I have no worries.

Yes its getting frightening, gold is easier to machine and get all the
correct markings than S.steel.And gold is something that the Italians
are renowned for.I was told they do the mould and bracelet from the
genuine gold Rolex sub. With scrap gold now at such low prices 9kt
as low as £2.85p gram,14kt £4.40p gram and 18kt £5.50p gram and
if you buy in quite large quantities, reduce the prices further by about
10% quite large profits can be made. And you can bet your life they
are selling everyone they make.
