116520 vs 116500 bracelet
Do the 116500 bracelets feel lighter and somewhat flimsier than the 116520?

No I have panda and both black and white 116250s with the updated clasp and RRR, the bracelets are the same.
Recall now there was an update to the bracelet mid 116250 cycle ~ V Series (2009) ish. Perhaps that is what you speak of

I’d think it would be the opposite for the old style bracelet vs the new.

The bracelet of the "late" 116520 (with long clasp) is exactly the same as the 116500. The bracelet of the "early" 116520 (with short clasp) is different, but none of them is "flimsy". The bracelet of the 16520 (if that's what you had in mind) feels less substantial but again, not flimsy by a long shot!
