New Rolex prices are one thing. But the cost to service is getting more nuts to me
Seriously, I’m rich but I fight for the little guy!
I recall a full overhaul on a DJ from 2012 and it was $600 at RSC. Today for the overhaul it would be close to $1100 Is this not another Rolex outrage!!!!! What say you all!!!???!!!!!?? |

Not bad for a full service. Check out some other luxury brands. Rolex is on the cheaper end.

I agree, cost of service is pretty steep. Then again, based on the turn around times, demand seems pretty high. Then you add in the CPO thing.

Also think not wanting a polish should knock off $150 to $200 if you like battered looking Rolexeses.

I had my 16710 into the service center at one of the Geary Boutiques in the last 6 months and it was $750.

I dropped my Sub off at my Boutique for its first service. I bought it new around 2009. This was 6-8 months ago. Full routine service and polish was $850.00. Had a full routine service on a Cartier Tank Francaise through their boutique, cost $450.00, 6-8 months ago.

To put it simply.
Purchase price is the cost of admission to the club. Servicing is the cost of membership renewal. Multiple watches(more than one) is a luxury. To expand further. How does one account for the fact that servicing through an independent is not all that much more cost effective. Is there an inference that there is widespread price collusion or gouging taking place when it comes to servicing. At least Rolex(among other brands) are somewhat upfront about their aims and objectives to strictly control who is able to service their watches if one is involved in this game on any level. As it currently stands the Rolex equation is a far better proposition for my money. At least the resale value is somewhat covering the periodical service cost with servicing being performed every 5-5.5 years in my case, so the Rolex watches are more or less holding their own for now and I anticipate I won't be all that worse off by the time I've left this earth. Plus I've had the pleasure of owning and wearing a great timepiece. Many years ago I bought a great Seiko that cost me 2.5 times more to service than it's original purchase price before it finally died. The last time they serviced it the Back case seal had picked up while they were buttoning it up and there was a little tit of seal poking out from under the Back case. It was a 100m water resistat watch and for the life of me I can't work out how Jesus Christ could've had it pass a 100m pressure test upon completion of the job. I was done with them at that point and was galvanised toward the integrity of the Rolex brand. Now I'm old school and a strictly 31xx movement era Rolex fan with 2 of them. I'm not complaining when one fully factors in what other "high end brands" are offering. What are the viable alternatives???? |

I just had a full overhaul of my 16610 at RSC Dallas last year, 2022, and it was $750. I was pretty happy with that price. If it's now $1100 that's one hell of a price increase in 1 year.

If you get old enough (like I am), and have 10 year service interval like my two new subs, then I'm thinking no service will ever be required...Kind of a benefit, in a way.

I agree but ya..many other brands are even more ridiculous if that makes us feel any better.
Factoring in for inflation, a basic DJ service should more like $800. The thing is, is that a lot of companies (probably most) that sell or service anything have found a way to profit from inflation. |

I also have my Panerai 233 in for a full services and was quoted $1200 and 8 weeks. That seemed a bit high to me and no real other service options. 10 years old, was starting to run a bit slow and had taken a few hits as it was a daily sort of beater. Can’t wait to get it back.

My local jeweler recently charged me 632.00 tax included for a complete overhaul and polish on my ceramic gmt. I recently found another jeweler by accident that charges even less. Neither is and AD but both reputable placed of business.

I normally agree with most of what Chewie
says but I don’t here. I think it’s MSRP that’s too high (objectively) and service is fine. Bear in mind the whole watch movement gets stripped and rebuilt and the 4130 is a proper chrono for example. It’s fair. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

23 yr old Sea Dweller 16600 serviced at Rolex NYC HQ 3 weeks ago (walk in).
Basic service $850 Added new crown tube ($46) due to wear and bezel disc replacement ($58). With 8.85% local tax it was $1038 out the door. They did have some nice chocolates in the waiting room but zero watches on display. This is a "temp" office for the next 3 yrs in NYC as they build an entire new building to replace the old one on 5th Ave. |

At least Rolex include polishing as part of service so you can take it or leave it. As noted above, ALS would be €850 for that alone. Last watch I serviced was the 16710 and I used some accumulated dept store points which made it seem very reasonable 2 years ago :)

What's crazy is that vintage pieces like Oysterdate's, which retail for $2000-$3000, cost over $2000 to service at Rolex

For me, a classic 3-hand service with date was between 500 and 600e! I think that today we are more at 800e or 850CHF. The most annoying subject is the delay, we were at 4 weeks and we are going to 8 weeks on average... At the time, an AP service was around 1200CHF or euros and that's why I turned my back on this brand. Today we must be at 2000 CHF for a 3 hands

They must be rubbing their hands with all the people buying naked watches and sending them in to be “authenticated” via a service. Plenty businesses benefit from selling their product near cost and making a killing on servicing/ maintenance.
On the flip side, it’s a 10 year interval so not much more than 1% -2% a year on a decent watch. It’s the £750 watches needing a £500 service every 2 years that I find crazy. |
