OFFICIAL 2023 - FIFA Women's World Cup Soccer
Looks like USA 0 Portugal 0 no winner
The USA commentators were scathing, just highly critical of Team USA.... Australia had an amazing 4-0 win against Canada yesterday!

for highlights of USA-POR. I think more honest disappointment from our side - so many squandered opportunities methinks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

I can’t support that team after the horrific display of bad sportsmanship they displayed a few years ago against Thailand.

I thought England's ball control against China was outstanding.
England seem to be a formidable team. USA are through to the next round so they can still improve.

For those of you that are interested in the event, enjoy.
I coached soccer at the club level, I love international events like the World Cup, the Olympics, Ryder Cup, Solheim Cup, however.... This US team is one that I can't support |

I looked it up and it seems to be happening in Australia. I’ll have to watch the evening news tonight and see if there’s any mention.

Agreed. And the silence during the national anthem. And the desire for equal pay when tickets are given out for free at their WC
Oh well.

Right there with you. Our country is not perfect, but I still don’t see any of these ‘unhappy’ individuals heading for the exits.

Just a wild guess, but I’m betting US women have a little bit better life than the average Thai woman, and that made this an even more disgusting display.
Comedian Bill Burr has a pretty good bit on professional female sports and compensation, that’s incredibly funny but damn spot-on. I went to a Houston Dash NWSL match five years ago, and there were more people sitting on the benches than in the stands. https://www.cnn.com/2019/06/11/footb...ntl/index.html |

US has issues. They can't put the ball in the net, and pretty much all of their best offensive players are at least 28 years old. I don't think they ever failed to win their group in a World Cup before. They're still a top 5 or 7 team in the world but this is so far easily the worst WC they've ever had. Likely have Sweden next...unless they get their heads out of their butts they are gonna get smoked.

OK there's a bit of a raw nerve there with the USA team, I get that.
If you are playing for your country, it is an honour and one should respect that privilege, not use it as a platform to make some kind of statement rightly or wrongly. Its just a game, a past time recreation. (not stereotyping)

x2. Exactly this. Personally, I try to enjoy the game instead of getting sensitive about my feelings about a player or two. I understand from comments in this thread that some people can’t separate their sensitive feelings from the beauty of the game. That’s fine, it’s a free country. ;-) Anyway, the American women’s soccer system is a true success producing great teams capable of competing on the global stage. Something to proud of and support, IMHO. |

What may spark some to rant is that the USWNT made headlines last year when the US Soccer Federation agreed to pay them equally and to award $22m in back pay. The Federation also equalized World Cup prize money. That bothers some but I think it blurs sport and financial impact. So I usually say is isn’t “just a game” when this comes up in polite company. Despite consistently outperforming their male counterparts, the female teammates had been earning considerably less money. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

I find it hard to watch. The level of play is just not entertaining to me.

Been enjoying it. In the Australia v. Canada match the other night, that first Hayley Raso goal was brilliant. Getting it done without our best player Sam Kerr.
Megan Rapinoe is a football legend, so we’ll be watching on Sunday. |

it's not incumbent on fans of the game to separate their feelings about the game and the use of it as a political platform. When a player decides to "use her platform" she does it in full knowledge that it will alienate some people. Its a known consequence of becoming overtly political.
