A fun Hodinkee article on love-em or hate-em Hublot.

Read the article a couple days ago and was curious how superdog was getting along with his Hublot purchase.

Hublot's always in the back of my mind, and I wouldn't mind owning one.

feels to me like this is a great article regardless of which side of the fence you’re on (and in the interest of full disclosure I own two Hublot pieces). there is definitely an aspect of fun and showiness in owning an Hublot - I’ve had more comments on my hub lots than on any of my more expensive and more respected pieces. but I also feel like once you move beyond the classic fusion line Hublot has really shown it’s ability to build and leverage beautiful movements. the unico is competitively priced for a flyback chrono (especially second hand, as the article points out), the Meca 10 is no slouch, and even the Zenith they use in the spirit of big bang has enough history and clout to garner some respect.

are they tasteless? probably. is that the point? definitely.

Some are really unique

Like most brands, I am not a fan of all models but I really like the Meca 10 and the Essential Grey watches.

I love their new integral series.

They are machine made, just like most mass produced brands like Rolex, Omega, etc.

I bought this integral series used at a great price, and then when I got bored I sold it for pretty much what I paid no problem in about a week. I am still looking for the black ceramic version of the watch.

I like them despite the hate. I used to say meh they are an AP wannabe, but seems like AP with their alyx collab or doing collabs in general they are out hublowing Hublot.

Agree, nothing original these days from them — and superhero watches, really? At least Hublot continues to innovate with materials, new in-house movements, designs.

I hear the following from owners pretty regularly:

1) Early Hublot was not amazing quality. But then LVMH purchased the brand and put a massive investment into facilities to create innovative in-house movements.

2) Hublot suffer a large price drop from retail immediately after purchase. But then hold strong and steady. As long as you know that and don’t buy retail, then you get great value for your dollar and a good place to park money safely and enjoy it.

I'm a big fan of Murakami's works but wish it is 40mm instead of 45mm.

Did you find your black ceramic version of the watch?

No, they don’t seem to pop up much for sale.

local boutique had the black ceramic and grey ceramic. tried them on, as that was my first experience with a full ceramic bracelet. messed with my head a bit. crazy light, looked incredible. felt cheap, but at the same time, awesome. if i had the cash, the black would definitely be on my list.

1. I love that there's a thread with the word "hublot" in it that hasn't devolved into a total flamewar.

2. I had the chance this summer to try on a ceramic integral and will 100% agree with what's been said here. the lightness of the ceramic is hard to get comfortable with but they look/feel pretty great. I tried on the beige and it was pretty awesome — the way they've brushed the links but polished the edges makes it shine like crazy when it's lit up.
