You're just as likely to damage your watch getting in and out of your car as at the gym.
I'll let my heirs worry about resale value.

I'm a little confused by the "Is it proper" phraseology. That is, it's one thing to ask about "safe," "low-scratch," etc., but "proper" has an odd connotation here.

Lol all of these people saying trying to impress someone. I go straight from work to the gym in my day date and then go home and wash it off. It’s just a watch

Id say there's nothing wrong, his watch his choice.

i used to wear mine in the gym because i went to the gym on the way to work.
if i didn't wear it, i'd have to leave it in my car or gym locker. the gym was in a sketchy part of town so car was a no go, and i've been around TRF long enough to know better than to leave a Sub in the gym locker.

Probably trying to flex. But I certainly would never wear my watch to the gym. It’s just not practical for me personally.

No need for a watch in the gym in my opinion. For outdoor runs I'll use a fit bit or phone to track distance.

Whatever watch I’m wearing does everything that day.
I’ve worked out with a Rolex Sub, GMT, Panerai without any problems or concerns They’re tough enough for most anything |

I bought my first Two tone GMT Master 2 in 2008 and wore it day and night till 2023 and sold it to buy a batgirl which I wear everywhere. The nicks and dents you get gives it a character and I don’t keep the watch keeping in mind for resale or next owner. I just enjoy it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I don’t understand why someone would worry about another’s watch getting scratched or dented. Heard the same type of comments about driving a 911 during the winter in the snow.

To me it sounds like he owns the watch and not the other way around. If you can afford the watch then wear it. If you can’t, keep it on the winder at home. Op needs to take a lesson from the gym guy and enjoy life a bit more.

It doesn’t matter what proper gym wear is for you, it matters what’s proper to the champ.

For me it is not about "need" in the gym. It is more that I just wear it virtually 24/7 and have no need to take it off and don;t think about it. Plus it is most secure on my wrist. YMMV of course

I don't take any Rolex to the gym, only a smartwatch mainly for heart monitoring. Also, I don't feel comfortable with a luxury watch hitting dumbells and handles from lifting machines. Then there's the comfort aspect, a metal bracelet is not the best when doing crunches.
