I shot it in raw after taking a hand held spot meter reading. It turned out to be about two stops over exposed, so I reduced the exposure just a hair over two stops in Rawshooter. Then I just sharpened it a bit, and maybe too much, lol.
That's about it! |

Thanks Roadcarver! I dunno about the pink tint. I assume it's reflected light.

Beautiful shot, Bruce. I thought I'd comment on this one before going back to the Nov. 1 shots. All very nice. You're getting good, my man.
Now that you're going to be a house husband, you'll have plenty of time to practice, between doing the laundry, making the beds, feeding Josh. Yep, you'll have plenty of time.

Yeah I better get good at the writing part. Josh is in my lap right now, being a royal pain in the arse at 0215!! I'm not good at writing one handed and I sure as hell can't go out takin' pics this way. I guess I'll pay my dues as the mum for a while
I'm really surprised everyone has liked those sky shots so much. Man, I just walked outside, pointed my camera at the sky and pressed the shutter button. Those kind of shots are soooooooo easy to get because all you have to do is expose the sky. Getting detail in the foreground AND getting the sky exposed correctly is much harder. That requires filters or blending. Anyway, I wasn't after anything technical. Just wanted to share how pretty the sky was this evening Thanks everyone. I really do appreciate the comments. Bruce |

Well... you were asking about the pink... this is my take on that.
I am not an expert by no means, but after studying the three images I am willing to bet that the pink must be caused by some sort of filter on your camera. Either an optical one on your lens, or a digital one in your camera.I say that because t is the same shade of pink in all images and it appears mainly in areas that photoshop deems "over exposed". I found that (at least for me) the best moon shots are taken at ISO 200, Shutter priority, exposure anywhere between 1/600 and 1/1200 of a second. If you think about it, the moon is very very bright and very easy to over expose. Here are a couple of moon shots of mine taken using the method above. All I did there was desaturate the image and add my sig and borders. This is how it looks like straight from the cam. (original colours, shot the way I described above) The shot below was slightly over exposed, and I used an in camera option to make colours more vivid. Pink is popping out all over.

No filters Chip, and I don't think it's digital either. What I do think is that I should've used the sunny F16 rule. A bright moon on a clear night is like shooting on the brightest sunny day.
I try to shoot digital as if I was using film. I really try to get it right the first time, or as close as one can get. Like I said, I had to reduce the exposure in the raw conversion software. Out of the camera it was total shite. So with film, I would've had a wasted frame. That's the beauty of digital I suppose. Not photochopped, but I dicked with the raw data, and the botched exposure. It's kinda like a watch pic that has reflections all over that you can fix in photoshop. Is it a good pic? Well, out of the camera it's shit, but once it's been massaged it's fantastic. Is that good or bad? That's just the modern darkroom. Cheers, Bruce |

After tinkering with the pic a while longer, I came to the same conclusion. It was just overexposed.
No biggie! It looked good anyway! I was able to fix it further by desaturating it then creating a copy of it as another layer, set the type to multiply, then adding a layer mask to remove the areas that were not over exposed. Looked like new!! PS is "magic"!! Really... tryi shooting with my setting. It works every time mate! Quote:

Maybe the moon is made of pink cheese.
Well that's my take on it. I must try a few shots myself if I ever get a clear night away from the lights. Good work guys.
