OUCH! I'm an architect, urban planner, teacher, and I have a general contractor's license. I generally enjoy my work, both the creative process and the construction process. A lot my work is is in the public domain so I get to work with large community groups in the planning/design phase of work. I enjoy this also. On more detailed work I enjoy working with craftspeople and realize there needs to be give and take on both sides in the contractor/designer relationship. Here in the States a lot of issues around joinery fit out and millwork are resolved by the contractor providing very detailed 'shop drawings' for architect review and approval prior to fabrication and installation. I don't like problems that arise around inflated egos either with co-workers or owners and their representatives. By the way, the only drug problem on a job I had was the GC high on cocaine close to the end of his 'tenure'.

I love working on Rolex watches 7 days a week. The only thing I don't like is grossly disgusting snot filled icky bands and cases. Did i get enough adjectives in there. You know when the s**t oozes form the band when you roll the links makes my skin crawl. Ok back to dinner laters Rik

I don't like being rushed to work on projects that are 6-9 months away when I have current projects that should receive my full focus in the next month or so. That being said I had to really think of something I dislike about my job. I really have it made with a job I really enjoy and a boss who is one of the best leaders I have ever had.

I hate the part about where I have to work. It's just not fair.
No, seriously... I just had a sitdown with my 18 year old babysitter who recently commented to my wife that if she can afford to buy me a Rolex then she can afford to pay her better than the $80 cash a day she is getting for roughly 5 hours of watching ONE of our daughters. And we pay her regardless of whether we have her over to watch the dang kid or not! She says we are taking advantage of her and she hates her job because sometimes we make her stay until 4:30 in the afternoon. We are adversely affecting her social life. I fired her. |

Hahaha. I can relate. We were paying a babysitter about $500 cash a week to watch our two kids. She became very unreliable in the end (arriving late, wanting advances, etc), so I fired her. Now my brother-in-law is doing it. He has it easy because my son is going into 1st grade (waits with him at the bus stop in the mornings and picks him up at the bus stop in the afternoons) and my daughter goes to preschool half days. Just a lot of schlepping for him and spends 3 hours or so in the afternoons with my daughter after preschool. We will be home free when my daughter starts kindergarten in 2010. Maybe I can work from home and do the bus stop thing? Oh, and my wife is a teacher with summers off

Now im bored with retirement.....not enough money to really do what I want....which is stay in Vegas and Gamble 24 x7, smoke Cohiba's and have 2 Vegas showgirls on each side of me 24 x 7 and throw in a few drinks too....is that asking to much? |

You know what they say..When times are good people drink. When times are bad people drink more!
If it business was bad I likely would have never stumbled on to a Rolex forum. Seriously Forbes just did an article on our company and how we were "recession proof". Hopefully that won't do us in. |

Work.
Period. With the amount I am pulling in on this contract and being carefully applied in all the right areas we will be completely retired in under two years. Combined, my frau and I have 54 years of military service for which we are both drawing pensions. We are semi-retired. REALLY looking forward to adding more "retired" than semi-...to the term. Freedom 50 my friends, freedom 50.

Actually started a new job Tuesday, so besides the 8:30 to 5:30, they block ALL emails---yahoo,aol, gmail, etc and worst of all, aol instant messenger.
The pay and commissions are MUCH better, so it's a small price I guess |
