Interesting! I remember when spanking was acceptable in US schools. I got "licks" for doodling on my paper in second grade...

Troy, I've no desire to get into an argument, but I don't believe that spanking today's youth would make them better behaved. I think the problem has more to do with parents who refuse to bother investing time and guidance in their kids.

I agree with Lisa as well. Time out and cleaning jobs (kitchen, room, floors) is a better punishment saves on the hired help as well.

Jocke's right, guys!!
To spank or not to spank.....that is the question.....and that was quite an issue in Parliament some time ago. So the NZ Government decided to put the whole issue to the vote. We were all sent out very simple voting slips with just TWO options: YES or NO......YES meaning that the spanking is unacceptable......and NO of course the other way around. I vote NO because I don't believe in sparing the rod and spoiling the child. Of course, I've never personally raised my hand on any of my kids or grandkids and NEVER will......but the occasional LOUD VOICE and a firm hand is indeed necessary. I know our parents never spared the rod......and today we are upright and solid citizens. JJ

Of course, we've had several cases of child abuse where small kids have been subjected to unimaginable brutality. This has been a hot subject of debate for quite some time now......so I think it was a wise move on the part of the Govt. to finally put it to the vote. JJ
