2024 GLS450 Feedback?

So I had my first MB on order earlier this year, an AMG GLE63 Coupe. However, I had plans change (family getting bigger) and we cancelled. Wife and I are wanting to pickup a GLS450 as it's more suited to our use case being a 1 car family.

I'd be getting a pretty much completely optioned out 2024 model, MSRP is $111,380. I can utilize a Friends and Family discount though, so purchase price around $96k.

Any others have GLS in their garage and have any feedback? I know the X7 is an obvious competitor but the front end is atrocious and can't do it.

We have a 22 GLS and it’s such a great car. I’m very impressed with it and will replace it with another one someday. Let me know if you have any questions
Just got home from a roadtrip and wouldn’t rather drive anything else. Gets surprisingly good mileage too

I have a 18 G63 and have started to tire of it.
I test drove a GLS63 and it just felt kinda boat like to me and just did not care for the handling, the infotainment system etc.
I ended up going with a Alpina XB7. I picked it up last week and took it straight to the spa for PPF. I will have it back Thursday and can't wait to get it.
Test drive the GLS and make sure you love it, it's a great truck but Id go for an X7 over the current GLS personally.

Have a 21 GLS450 with about 45k miles on it now. Purchased it new and so far (knock on wood) the car has been great. No issues at all. Ride and build quality top notch.

I think the X7 is a touch more fun/sporty but I can’t get over the front end. I just personally think it looks horrible. Different strokes for different folks of course, but that’s the main complaint with most people it seems who decide against the car as otherwise it’s a winner, 100%

I had all of these options on my 2020 GLE and loved every single one of them.

Have a 2021 GLS450, love it. Cross shopped against the usual suspects, the captains chairs (6 seat configuration) is great as well.

Personally found the interior a bit car like in size but I’m a big guy and am accustomed to oversized SUVs. I think the gls is a very logical choice for that budget and your needs.

My wife drove a GLS 550 from 2016 until September. Never a single glitch.
Every option except the adaptive cruise control.
We even towed our 8,000 lb boat a few times on level roads with it.

She wanted to downsize, and traded it in on the new GLE 450e hybrid.

She loved the GLS, and she loves the new GLE. Dealer’s managerliked her GLS so well, he bought for his wife.

Not really. The Escalade would more closely compete with a Range Rover if we are comparing to euro brands. But honestly, the only things as over the top as an Escalade are really the G-Wagen or a Cullinan. Similar size, weights, and flash. Still though, if I’m shopping in the 90-130 range, a platinum Escalade would definitely be a contender.

Update- upgraded to a 580 with the E-ABC suspension. Went all out, figured it might be my last shot to grab a V8TT before they go extinct. Price difference was a bit eye watering but I think it’s going to be worth it!

How is the long term maintenance on these? I know BMW can get pricey for parts and service out of warranty.

We had no out of warranty repairs, so I can’t speak to that.

As far as service, you can save $$ by using an independent shop, especially after the warranty period expires. The problem with dealer service is the upsell. The official manual says to change brake fluid every year or so, and to flush radiator frequently. Much overkill there.

Brakes, OTOH, are ridiculous when done by the dealers. And we go through brake pads/rotors quickly. Huge heavy SUV with big V8 and lead-footed drivers.

Tires went quickly, too, but I buy those from Tire Rack and pay to have mounted. Dealers also recommend tire replacement even though there’s decent tread left. Same with brakes and rotor/pad wear.

Service managers work on commission, so know your car and its specs when dealing with them. Ask for measurements and compare with the official operating range.

I’ve gotten recommendations for brake replacement when measurements showed 50% wear. I think I’m safe to 90-95%, thank you, but no.

I’ve been persuaded potentially against the E-ABC though, as using the $6500 for a nice vacation instead. Apparently reliability issues and the curve control isn’t even active in all modes.

The V8 + off road package/underguard is non negotiable now though, I’m all on board for it.

the regular maintenance intervals aren’t insane. And I’ll get extended warranty for prevention of any repair bills. I’ll plan on keeping this until 2032/100k miles, whichever comes first (we only drive around 8-10k per year on average, as we have home in another country)

The German Car Shop (literally thats the name) that services my Audi Q 5 is excellent. I asked them which maker they prefer and they told me that between the three owners, they own seven MBs. Not sure if they were looking to pay college tuition for their kids though.

Ok, I'm locked in, picking it up in May as I'm traveling around extensively in April when it will be ready. I pretty much checked every box aside from:

1. E-ABC due to the potential maintenance nightmare
2. Wood steering wheel, as I like the standard sport one better
3. Chrome door handle inserts, super gaudy
