As a die hard Sopranos fan I have to echo others who mentioned Tony Soprano with his iconic gold day-date. That show came out when I was in high school and it made me want to wear a Rolex and smoke cigars.

Even as a kid, Magnum PI was the show that made me fall in love with the Pepsi! Fell in love with the Ferrari 308 too!

Great thread. Reminds me of the commercial at the Oscars a number of years ago:

I always wondered about this. If his dad was KIA during the war, (1950-1953), how did his dad have a watch that wasn't around until 1955?

The show had several flubs involving dates. (including Magnum's own birthday).
But alas..that 16750 Rolex GMT Master.

More recent example I noticed was James Badge Dale rocking a sub in 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi:

Ooooo, what an ad! Thanks for that.

Am I being completely naive to believe what I've heard? That Rolex doesn't pay for product-placement in films, and that these watches are simply the free choices of props-responsibles on all these movies?

(When I write it out like that, it looks verrrrry naive.)

A fair number of these examples are actors just choosing to wear their personal watches. I know for certain that is why Redford wore his.

Probably Bond also for me.

Didn’t Ben Affleck wear a DSSD in Argo set in the 70s? Personally I haven’t seen it.

The guy he plays in that movie, Tyrone Woods, was a member here long ago.
