I got one of those egg syle BBQ's (japanese brand) about 20 years ago.
They are great. That meat I can only imagine how it must be

14 hour update... only up to 178 degrees and need to get to 190-195... a couple of more hours to go.
Regarding the mini egg... I have never talked to anyone that has one but the only drawback would be the size. I have the large size and I am limited on what I can cook. As far as cooking... it usually takes a minimum of 2-3 hours to smoke chicken and most everything else takes even longer. Hope that helps!

Just a question about the charcoal. How long will it go before the charcoal is used up? I guess it depends on the temperature, but if you are slow cooking for 10 or 12 hours do you have to add more charcoal?

Never - the egg will cook about 24 hours before ever needing to add charcoal. Also, since it is natural lump charcoal (no chemicals, fillers, etc.) - there is hardly any ash. And... you can reuse whatever is left over. I have done about 12 full day (12 hours each or so) smokes and I am half way through my second bag of charcoal.
