Looking for New Explorer II
I know it's a long shot, but does anyone know of a store with a new Explorer II sitting around? My local store said it's a 2 year wait - for an explorer??

Your local AD is bs ing hard. I got my polar with 3 month wait in NYC on their release year. If you are after polar, wait might a bit longer than black but anybody quoting you more than 6months is bs ing.

That's what I sort of thought. He told me multiple times its 2 years for an Explorer II. Which seems insane... Any major ADs I can call to see how long their list is?

AD's don't have "lists" per sey. You can't just call an AD and ask to put you on a list. You have to go into the store and speak with someone, create that relationship etc. They need to know you aren't just some sort of flipper before they agree to sell you a watch. Unfortunately, with demand far out pacing supply that's the way it is currently.

My AD said I need to get on a list and that it would take 2 years. I think he's just trying to sell me one of his CPO watches instead...

Pushing cpo for sure. Not a super difficult watch to get. I would just grab one from a grey dealer. Cpo is great but the prices are laughable. I was in Vegas at a large dealer and they had a huge cpo section. The prices were nuts. They were asking 16K for a 16600, and something like 27k for a 116520.

You need a new AD. They're not sitting ready to sell but this is a watch that can be had in as little as a couple of weeks.
White dial a little harder to get... but not impossible.

I think it really depends on the allocations an AD gets. My local AD told me in casual conversation that the black dial EXP II (a watch I don't want) is very hard to allocate because they have only seen 2 in the last year and a half. I've been waiting 3 months for a white 226570 with a prior spend history, known non flipper, and a great relationship with my AD. Others as in the aforementioned posts, wait as little as weeks. Hit multiple AD's and express your interest and tell them why you want the watch. Also, make sure you try it on if you haven't. I'm sure you know but it's one of the lineup's bigger models and I personally think it needs at least a 6.75 to 7 inch wrist to look great. Best of Luck and don't give up! |

Hop in your car. According to rolex.com there are 5 Rolex ADs in the Denver area. Visit each AD and ask for the watch.
Good luck. |

I got a new polar dial within 2 weeks from an AD with no history whatsoever. Having said that, I’d waited for 2 years with my local AD that I do have a spend history with which is why I tried somewhere else. I’d suggest trying several ADs as you may get luck with one of them.

While Exp II may not be a “hot” piece, I do think they often see them (especially the Polar) far less frequently than a “hotter” model such as a sub.
So it is possibly it could take a while |

My AD wouldn’t put me on the list for an Exp II but was happy to waitlist me for a sub.
I went grey and bought a 4 day old one BNIB. After a couple of MSRP rises, the grey price was less than the retail price I would have paid if I’d waited a year or two and I got to wear the watch all the while. That was 18 months ago so the premium will be much smaller now. |

Great question...
Buy a seller you absolutely trust, even if that means a slight premium. Make sure they have an authenticity guarantee and a reputation that they can't afford to tarnish. The technical answer to your question though is... You don't. AD is the only iron clad guarantee of provenance. Super clones can fake even though most well intentioned dealers. |

I had a list of dealers local to me who had brick and mortar stores and had been around for many years with excellent reputations. Kept an eye on their stock lists on eBay/ chrono and then popped into the store when potential watches came up.
To be on the safe side, paid with a credit card to give some further insurance in the unlikely event any issues arose. |

Yeah, that kind of approach totally makes sense. You couldn't get a Rolex at MSRP from your local AD so you bought it from your local scalper. Well, I guess you couldn't get it from local AD because they sold it to their well known flipper who then sold it to your local grey dealer. Unless your AD sold it directly to your local grey dealer who then scalped you.

Rolex Boutique in the Galleria Mall, Dallas. I haven’t been in since,
and more than likely sold, but they had PM pieces, but in SS, they had explorer 36 and a black explorer II. This means that there shouldn’t be a long wait for these, just shop around. |

Just go to another AD within driving distance. I have two that I visit, and have gotten 2 watches within 8 months, with no prior history. It’s all about whether they like you. So find another AD, and be friendly, and stop in monthly just for a chat. Kat Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

As ever there is no right answer here. It’s definitely not a super hot piece but it has its fans, especially so in some parts of the world. Black can be had under msrp slightly used. Polar should be possible in 3 months to a year where I am.
