How about thirteen years? It's been a hot minute, but the watch still keeps great time with the exception of when it sits on a winder. Seems to progressively lose time over the days.
The issue I'm contacting Bob about is I'm noticing some "spotting/oxidizing/something" on the hands. Well, that and it's also been 13 years and is due for a spa day. I'll be contacting him on Monday but thought I might try and upload some pictures here to let the experts chime in on what's going on. Sorry for the rough quality of the pics. Corrosion happens with father time.

Corrosion/oxidation, as you suggested.

Oh, I more than understand that with a 55 year old watch. So I'd guess that's something that can be cleaned/treated? Kind of a rookie question, but I work industrial construction for a living, so forgive me. Our mantra is "Beat to fit, paint to match.".

Not really something that can be fixed unfortunately. Just the effects of time, and probably some moisture. Having the watch serviced may slow further degradation by inhibiting additional water ingress.

No worries, adds "character". Guess I'll take a page from the HQ Milton playbook and refer to the hands as "frosted" from here on out. Thanks for the help all.

Got the watch back this morning. As always, excellent service delivered by Mr. Ridley. Had the movement serviced, replaced a busted oscillating wheel, a worn drive wheel, mainspring, case tube and crown. And of course waterproof and seals in the hopes to slow the oxidation on the hands.

Wonderful watch and story. My 5508 is probably about due for another visit to the Ridley spa as well. :)

How far off was the watch? And how close is it now?
