Saw the new Tarrentino 'Inglorious Basterds'
Inglorious Basterds.
It's rated "R" in the USA as I understand it. It is rated "MA+" in Australia (15 year olds can go see it). It stars Brad Pitt. It goes for about 2.5hours so get comfortable. One scene is particularly violent, the camera zooms out, but it is still quite horrific. It has no bearing to WWII reality. It is a kind of WWII spagetti western. I didn't take the movie very seriously as it is really a fictious movie that takes pieces from other movies in a typical Tarrentino style. I rate the movie a 7/10 worth a look, but not to be taken too seriously.

Thanks for the review. The previews look tempting. Brad Pitt movies are usually pretty good. I really like "Fight Club". Is there any nudity or just violence?

There is no nudity. There is a 4 second clip of a simulated sex scene, but 4 seconds in 2.5 hours....
A fair degree of swearing, but it isn't significantly gratuitous to ruin the dialogue. The movie does keep you thinking, and it was an enjoyable 2.5hrs.

Number one movie in the US and the world for Friday and Saturday. Tough competition with District 9 (for males) too. Haven't seen it yet.

Some very violent and pretty graphic scenes but has some excellent acting with some scenes that are just excellent. It is over done in some area's but that is Tarrentino's style. It's certainly not historically accurate but with some humor mixed in with the suspense and violence I thought it was a very enjoyable movie and would recommend it. Gets a 8.5 out of 10 from me.

I saw it last night. Lots of talking and not enough action. It's a bad movie though.

I saw it yesterday as well. Absolutely loved the first 75-80 minutes, but then thought it got a little 'laggy' in spots. Could have been 20 minutes shorter. Some great scenes, and superb acting for the most part. I must say that personally I'm getting worn out on extreme violence. After at least 50 murders in the previews, then 2.5 hours of Tarantino's fetish for the squeam factor, I'm in need of some light-hearted fare today.
I'd say it's definitely worth seeing, but not outstanding...7.5/10

I thought the movie was great. It entertained me for 2.5 hours so what more can you ask for! It's witty, intense at times, and you get to root against Hitler - The most inglorious bastard of them all.
Some more action may have made it a bit better in my books but I also rate it at 8/10! |

IMHO it does not rate anything near Pulp Fiction.

Ok. Ok. I'm a died-in-the-wool Q. Tarantino fan. The reviews are not great, but based on some of the comments here I'll go tonight or tomorrow and let you guys know what I think.

The rotten tomatoes score is pretty good for Basterds. I definitely want to see it. But Steve, you left out one crucial element. Which watch were you wearing?

Agreed. In fact, I'd have to say I liked "Reservoir Dogs", "Jackie Brown" and both "Kill Bill" movies better as well. It felt like every character in this movie was speaking through Tarantino, instead of being defined themselves. Just my two cents.

I wore the so called 'Steve McQueen' Explorer to the move, and that didn't really make any difference.
Although the movie did flow fairly harmoniously along its 2.5hrs. I did like Pulp Fiction and my favorite Jackie Brown considerably more.
