This still discriminates against non-Bat watch units.

I’m honestly a bit surprised that Batgirl took off… It doesn’t seem entirely clear to me that the jubilee is somehow more feminine.

And we don’t seem to have equivalents for the other 126710s? Like where is the Spritely or the Pepsi-Lee?

Pepshe LOL

Jubilee is more dressy, not feminine.

I have come to the conclusion that people take themselves and life in general way too seriously. Use them or don't.

I generally choose not to use them, but I find people reciting the same tropes over and over about how silly the nicknames are to be more annoying and off putting than the nicknames themselves. Particularly when a thread topic is legitimately about a watch and not the nickname of said watch!

Hate the nicknames with a passion. It encapsulates “hype” culture and all the bullshit fly by night enthusiasts that want the coolest newest thing.

Watch collecting used to be so pure compared to now

“Pepsi” has been in use since the 1970s…

How many were there in the 70s vs now? That’s what I’m saying

Yeah I hate it but I don’t get twisted about it. More so a cringe and a laugh when people have these nicknames. What’s next, the Mickey Mouse?

Yes these widely used nicknames are silly but I’ve decided not to get upset about it.

Live and let live. It's just a watch and if people want to use whimsical nicknames what does it matter?

Is it weird that I find it entertaining when others get upset about nicknames?

Nicknames are useful, so I don't have to memorize a bunch of numbers.

I do prefer nicknames that have logical associations. I even think some nicknames are not specific enough, like the Wimbelton can be multiple sizes with 2 different bracelets and 2 different bezels with different materials and still be called a Wimbelton. It's maybe the only one that I'm not really happy with.

Personally, I don't have a strong preference and appreciate the creativity behind some of the nicknames.

The most cringe part about it is that now every time a watch is released there's a race to think up a new nickname, which is not really how nicknames are supposed to be given, but ok lol.

I mean what in the scraping-the-bottom-of-the-barrel is "Bruce Wayne" all about...

All of a sudden where have all these new Daytona nicknames come from, too? "Pikachu", "Paul Newman" on a 126508 despite having nothing to do with him whatsoever... "Ghost". A year ago I'd not heard anyone mention these but now it's everywhere

I always thought that Robin was more colourful in his choice of attire, memory has flashed or red and yellow on his outfit so how does the VTNR black and green colours equate to Robin?

A classic example of a bizarre and pointless nickname.

Agreed... and perhaps the VTNR should be called the Riddler.

Some things in life are pointless, yet they also amuse and entertain... depending on your point of view.

The number of people who don’t enjoy some whimsy in their lives is astounding.

Well, to be fair it could be the 'localized' society and their personal ritualistic manner / beliefs system they were raised. If your grandparents were cannibals, and your parents too, odds are you'd feel cannibalism is normal. Unhappiness breeds unhappiness and all that.

It also could be the world as it is presented to them seems 'off', and how actual reality negatively affects their human life experience. For example, we see this deep unhappiness / frustration with some single moms at/over the age of 40 years (see YouTube videos) and others....

So yes, i can understand how some humans are less 'playful,' and thus not as welcoming to 'whimsy' and 'carefree fun' as others. Maybe they had a nickname they didn't like as a child and so are scarred for life ???

Imho... Life is great! Enjoy your time

---

“The whole point of Camp is to dethrone the serious. Camp is playful, anti-serious. More precisely, Camp involves a new, more complex relation to 'the serious.' One can be serious about the frivolous, frivolous about the serious.”

All to their own, I rarely use nicknames but I do tend to refer to the BLRO as a Pepsi, so I guess I’m actually as guilty as anyone.

And where is the line to be drawn in your purist view? Is it ok to refer to the 6239 as a Paul Newman? Very well respected folk in the watch world would use this ‘nickname’…are you saying it’s silly? And despite you suggesting in a post above that you like to use the full name and reference given by Rolex, you seem to have invented the moniker TTSD.

I’m not really fussed either way, this is supposed to be a fun hobby, so if people want to use ‘silly nicknames’, why not.

Rolex give "their" watches? Should be: gives its watches... Focus on proper grammer and I think you would be better off.

As other have posted, Rolex and it's network of trained SAs also recognize those references with nicknames.

Be well.
