Rare?
No. A great watch? Yes. Wear and enjoy it in good health! Some historical context (from long ago): I've found that the oversold term 'Rare(!)' in posts can cause a visceral reaction amongst those who have collected watches for a long time...decades before the most recent "look at my watch" paraprofessional influencer crowd got started on TikTok. We used to be merely a bunch of WIS geeks who'd buy and sell amongst ourselves on Timezone, Paneristi, the rolex forum, etc. Then some folks took it to another level of hype and battled amongst themselves to determine who was the greater 'internet authority' and, therefore, who had the privilege of influencing the demand side of the supply-demand curve at very little cost to said internet authority...perhaps some free posts was all that was needed to make an few extra thousand bucks (and sometimes significantly more). A watch company has the privilege of setting the supply side, but strong internet influencers can 'bet against the house' by shifting the demand curve beyond the forecasts, especially once watches were discontinued. A famous example of one of these battles that actually fractured an entire forum happened at paneristi long ago. The wannabe influencer who was hawking his goods by his regular ("rare!") free posts was eventually kicked off the forum with his followers, so he started his own competing site at which, surprise, he was the internet authority. Some (like me) post because they are merely watch hobbyists, and some post to flip and make money. Some stay in the somewhere in the middle, although I find I lose interest when money is the game rather than interest in the hobby itself. I'm not suggesting anything regarding your original post, nor am I casting shade on the desirability of the watch itself (it's a great watch). Just providing an historical observation for context. |

Rare is a relative term.
There are currently 567 PP Nautilus 5711s for sale on Chrono24 vs 306 OP39s. The 5711 is supposed to be a super-rare watch. Draw your own conclusions. |

Well in the watch world to be rare less than 50 made and I am 100% sure there are more than 50 white dial OP around but still a good colour dial

Great to find what you are looking for. Plenty of Rolex in various configurations are available. Rare would be WG Le Mans.

Fun fact. OP39 fits nicely with the Pepsi jubilee bracelet
Picked up this today and had the bracelet waiting for a home :)

would love to hear anyone's take on what the market is for this watch. seems like 8-9k is the sweet spot for excellent condition which is quite high.

In the world of watches, rarity often means fewer than 50 pieces made. While I'm confident there are more than 50 white dial OPs out there, it remains a popular and attractive choice.

It’s just a cool watch. I’m sure there are dozens of Rolex variants we could pick out and say the same. At the end of the day though it doesn’t matter. It just matters how you feel about it. It’s a great watch! Congrats and enjoy it.

Despite being perceived as rare, many of these watches are actually mass-produced.
