Durability of Jubilee or Oyster Bracelet

I have a question about the durability of an Oyster bracelet versus a Jubilee bracelet. I own a BLNR on an Oyster and am considering getting a Jubilee bracelet. However, I've read online that Oyster bracelets are more durable and less prone to stretching. Is this true for modern bracelets over the long term?

Without any scientific backing and by just the feeling of wearing both , Oyster will be slightly more durable.

Logically, less links= less that can fail

However, Rolex bracelets are incredibly robust and can take a beating. Just make sure to check the bracelet pins every now and again.

The Oyster bracelet will show less wear over time, but the secret on any bracelet is keeping them clean with regular washing in plain soap and water. After washing rinse well with clean water pat dry with any clean cotton type cloth, and wear watch not to lose just above the wrist bone.

They will both last a lifetime and more. Take a cheap citizen/Seiko/ whatever... does such a bracelet ever break? No... I think they can take a lot more than just wearing it.

It’s actually the other way around. In my experience oyster bracelets show more signs of scratches or every day wear than jubilees

Modern jubilee bracelets are nothing like the ones from days gone by and are quite durable IMO.

Great advice always!! Rolex bracelets are tough and can handle most situations.

Proper cleaning is the key. I clean my bracelets every couple of months in an ultrasonic cleaner. This is the way.

Won’t have that issue with the modern jubilee.

Any bracelet, be it vintage, classic 5 digit, or modern, will last the owner's lifetime if cleaned on a regular basis and worn properly.

My 1963 gold hollow link jubilee bracelet has been worn nearly daily since 1985 when my father gifted me his gold day date. While I acknowledge that jubilee bracelets have changed over the years, with proper care and sized correctly for use as other posts have suggested, the shelf life of my jubilee remains to be determined in the future.

The Jubiliee bracelets have more pins to take the load but they are smaller than the Oyster bracelet pins. They will both last a long time as long as they are cleaned regularly (as Padi has pointed out).

In a different thread about watch sizes you say there are no rules, yet you have a rule about how to wear the watch. Why is that?

I'm asking as I like to wear my watch loose, I find it more comfortable.

Yes it is true. However, what matters most is how you wear it and whether or not you clean it reasonably well and often.

Get the Jubliee if you prefer it. Durability is a non-issue.

All of this will be outdated in a few years as the ceramic “inserts” trickle down into other models, both oyster and jubilee.

They are both forever if taken care of and I agree that the oyster will show more wear than the jubilee , especially the TT is a scratch magnet. Either or can be made new again when serviced at RSC or a qualified watchmaker.

No worries:)

From my experience as well. The only real difference is that the oyster with PCL scratches more easily, while the jubilee you can’t really see the scratches. I’ve gotten a 10 year old DJ with PCL oyster polished and it looked brand new, though after 2 months of wear you could definitely start to see scratches again on it.

Durability of Jubilee or Oyster Bracelet

I have a couple of watches on the jubilee, but I’ve had both for less than 2 years. I’ve had my Submariner for quite a bit longer. I’d say both bracelets are very good.

Have to be honest about PCLs on the Oyster though…I’m not a fan…

I have seen a lot of older TT Jubilee bracelets that have stretched terribly.

Not sure if these were the older hollow-linked versions or if this happened because the center links were gold.

Obviously, the BLNR will have an all-steel Jubilee so this may not be an issue.

I don’t participate in lumber jacking trials or anything like that, but I have found the modern jubilee bracelets to be plenty sturdy.

Would doubt if the ceramic tubes will be used on any of the SS watches only the all gold versions as gold is much softer than SS.

Any Rolex bracelet will last as long as the watch does if looked after.

Periodic cleaning with soap and water, rinsed off after a swim in the sea, etc etc. As for how you wear the watch, well that is personal choice, I prefer above the wrist bone and held tight against my wrist, this stops the case from moving and reduces strain on the pins.

I expect the ceramic inserts will make eventual servicing a little more expensive?
